Aww yay!
thevoiceagainst replied to your photo: Gosh, that didn’t take long. :)
Every time I see a butterfly now, I think of you and it warms my heart. (Probably it would be the same with caterpillars only I don’t see them so much)
That is so sweet! :) >i< (That's a butterfly emoticon, I just decided.)

Aww. =) It’s like you’re starting a little caterpillar nursery.
I didn't mean to! I blame organic salad and broccoli! ;)
Only mobile internet
I am using the internet on my mobile phone only for the next few days, but I should be able to blog photos of the chrysalis even if I can't read replies or reply to you so easily. I like reading all the replies though. :) So far, the chrysalis is on the desk doing not much. It got a bit wobbly on the train but seems to be holding up. On the train, me and Adam named it retroactively. When it was a caterpillar it was called Cat, now it's a chrysalis it's called Chrys, and when it's a butterfly it can be called Butt.

Is there maybe a way to reduce the temperature around the CD box so the butterfly doesn’t emerge? I don’t know whether this will definitely work, but from what I’ve heard, this delays the time.

Oh, I’ll add that I meant all of that in case the butterfly doesn’t emerge before you’re gone. I hope it will! I’m definitely excited, and that’s one cool looking chrysalis.
That is VERY CUNNING! I hear they can survive over winter. I guess I could put it in the fridge. Huh.
That's a bit of a scary thought though. I'm seriously considering taking it with me and packing really light so I have my hands free to carry it carefully everywhere. I am also considering sequestering the CD case somewhere flowery outdoors in a secure location, so that it can unfurl and fly away without my involvement if that's how it wishes to roll.
Ohhh this is difficult! Is this what parenting is like? It's too much for me.

You are having so much fun with your catterpiloid friend. I just find it so adorable and lovely and yayyyyyy
I totally am! I'm glad you're enjoying my being a primary school kid. :D I'm having so much fun being a little kid; I might just have to find a new kidproject for afterwards!

Eee, that’s really exciting! I’m also incredibly surprised it’s happening so quickly. Do you know how long it’ll take to get to the cocoon stage and how long it’ll be staying there before becoming a butterfly?
I have no idea! I'll see if a quick Googling can help me...
Oh! Well, butterflies chrysalis, they don't cocoon. So that's useful to know. :)
Okay, it'll be in the chrysalis for 10-15 days. If it was getting colder it could be in the chrysalis for months, but it will be able to tell that it's summer so it should only be a couple of weeks.
From what I've seen, it only takes a few minutes (certainly less than an hour) for the caterpillar to be fully chrysalissed. This video is great! It's not a cabbage white though. It goes, "prepping, prepping prepping, prepping some more, more prepping WHOOSH I AM A CHRYSALIS!"
