Day 30 While I was drawing this week's ballet girls. There was this character jumping to my mind. If you have heard "Red Detachment of Women"-a Chinese ballet premiered in 1964. Although it had many disputes because of the time it was created as well as it's political propaganda. But it did bring ballet to the Chinese people and influenced 2 generations. It represented the positive spirit of art and the beauty of ballet to 60's chinese women. Remember how we used to band women's feet? I know some people might not agree with me. But you know what? Today, this red dress girl reminds me my dear grandmother, how she stood up for her ideal and country, how her generation sacrificed for the revolution. She never lost her faith even she was 97 years old. Now I went back to watch this ballet, I still feel the passion of the creators and dancers. The pure passion was beautiful and made you drop tears. No matter how you look at the negative side(which it had), but I still think it's not the fault of ballet, nor the people's passion. The red dress girl was once a national idol. Her hairstyle and dress was my father's generation's most sexy icon(they were once mine too). So I drew this one for the memories of my grandma. R.
