I hope you didn't really tell her to call another kid ugly. That just reinforces that it's OK to comment on other people's appearance. Instead, she could say to him, "I can be fat AND fit, but you're just MEAN." Or nasty. Nasty would probably be more hurtful, if you want to go for that.
I was going to leave this, but here goes.
Yes, I said it. Was it right? Yes, no, maybe, maybe not. I am full of sarcasm and my kids know it. I don't sugar coat much when it comes to them. They may only be 11 and 8, but I treat them as if they are much older. Always have, always will. Maybe I'll take flak for that, but oh well.
While we are at it, my kids' favorite xbox 360 game is Saints Row. It is the crudest, rudest, most un-kid game, but they love it. They turned it on this morning and I asked them if they were "going to shoot up some bitches and hos," to which they replied, "Yeah!"
My son also loves the song, "Rockstar." Also a crude, non-kid song. But he doesn't know what half of it means, he likes the beat.
Does that make me a bad parent or is that better than making a sarcastic remark about calling a kid ugly?
