Hey so I hope you don't mind me asking, but if archaeology is so unrewarding why do you do it? Is there some sort of satisfaction you get out of it or are you just kinda stuck in it now?
I'm not really qualified for much else, unfortunately. When there hasn't been archaeology work, I've usually ended up working behind hotel desks or substitute teaching, neither of which pays very well, or has anything like a regular schedule. I could get qualified to do something else, but that costs money, and I don't really have much. It sucks.
There are good things about archaeology, and there are good jobs and good companies. Most of the reason I talk about it on tumblr like I do is that I want to counteract the romantic image a lot of people seem to associate with archaeology. I've seen more than a few people go into it because it sounded like fun, and they didn't care about the money, and then realise how shitty it could be, and that they were stuck. If I can help someone avoid falling into that trap, that's not a terrible thing.
