Where The Mouse has not gone before. Co-Worker V, same one that gave The Mouse the leftover spaghetti, mentioned she misses yuka root. She could not find it here in SPAM Land.

Manioc beer is a South American fermented beverage dating back 4,000 years. It’s main ingredient is the cassava root, also known as yuca (not yucca) root or a “real” yam. Cassava is a long, tuberous dark brown root that looks like it’s been covered in a waxy sugar. It is one of the largest sources of carbohydrates in the world and is extremely starchy.

What is Cassava:  Cassava is a type of Yam that is eaten in parts of Africa.  One tribe that eat the yam as a staple of their diet have a high number of natural multiple pregnancies.  The tribe intake is believed to be around 900 to 1,000mg per day.  The yam is believed to cause hyper-ovulation   

What is hyper-ovulation:  this is when you body releases more than one egg at the time.  

Pro:  More eggs means you have more chances to get pregnant.  

Con:  However, more eggs means you also could be more likely to conceive twins (or more). This con doesn't put me but I understand that some people might be.

Is it dangerous:  The cassava yam is dangerous if eaten raw as it produces cynaide.  However, if prepared correctly it is perfectly safe. It must to be cooked correctly and people in Africa have been doing this for years.  

Apparently, the yam doesn't taste very nice even if you manage to cook it safely.   I've tried cassava crisps and liked them (BBQ flavour from Ocado).  A lot of Americans eat a pudding called tapioca which is made from cassava.  

However, I wouldn't trust myself to cook the yam and be safe so I'd opt for a supplement that has been prepared by someone who knows what they are doing.

How much to take:  Based on the tribes intake, it would appear to be safe to take 900 to 1,000mg.  However, a number of women have reported taking a lot more than this.  I guess it is up to your personal preference and to make your own judgement.  You can start eating cassava or taking supplements at any stage of your cycle and take it throughout your pregnancy.

I've decided to give this a go.  I've ordered my cassava supplements from the site below.  When they arrive, I plan to take a 500mg capsule, two to three times a day.
