It felt like forever since Alex and Cass had gone riding together. With everything that had been going on, Cass had been busy and Alex couldn’t blame her. He was busy in his own way, but more flexible as to when he did things. Niko was slowly making progress and Cass she could step away from her fiance for a bit so they could have some time together. Alex didn’t care about his birthday, definitely didn’t like the reminder that time was passing, but it was a good card to play to get Cass away from the house. Not that he could complain; they’d still been able to talk and do things together now that Niko was out of the hospital. Obviously she and Zodiac needed the time more than anyone.
Cici had already been tacked up from early in the day, leaving Alex to spend some time brushing her while he waited for his sister. A few minutes later and he saw Cass coming through the door to the stables. “At last. Blessing us with her presence,” he teased. Once Zodiac was tacked up the two began their ride, winding along the trail. He glanced over to Cass and gave her a smile. The past weeks had been stressful. Though it was nothing compared to what Cass was going through, Alex still felt more tired and lonely and off more than usual. It surprised him that for whatever reason he was in a better mood than he had been in quite a while. “You doin’ alright? Niko didn’t give you too much trouble?”
