3. If they complimented each other, what would they say?

Dazai compliments Atsushi effusively and constantly and about everything he can think of. His soft hair, his pretty smile, his strength, the way he’s so patient with Dazai’s shit, how good he is at cooking the few things he can cook, his goodness, everything he does for the people around them - Dazai notices, and rewards Atsushi for it with kisses and touching and praise, always the praise, and always so much. 

It’s like he knows, almost, how badly starved for praise Atsushi was and is, how he struggles to see the good in himself or to believe that it exists at all - that he’s allowed to want to live - and takes every chance to remind him that it’s real, he’s real, he’s good and loved and necessary. 

Atsushi struggles to articulate what he likes about Dazai, often fails to go beyond I love you because it’s hard to say what he loves. Dazai pretends it’s fine and pretends he doesn’t mind but he secretly feels horribly undeserving of Atsushi’s affection. When Atsushi cottons onto this he makes more of an effort to praise Dazai, usually kissing his wrists and telling him he’s strong and good. Dazai doesn’t believe him, ever. 

15. What are traits they dislike in one another?

They’re both by nature clean people, but sometimes Atsushi will find blood in the sink and it makes him spitting mad. He gets very angry when Dazai fails to take care of himself, even though on some level he does understand that Dazai is depressed, he can’t always remember that when Dazai casually informs him he hasn’t eaten properly in three days. To Atsushi, Dazai’s failures to take care of himself parse as him refusing to care about the things and people Atsushi cares about, which in turn is a sign he doesn’t really care about Atsushi. 

Dazai hates that Atsushi feels emotions the way he does because Dazai himself had been broken out of that shit by the time he was fifteen, and sometimes when Atsushi gets upset about someone being hurt on the news Dazai has to prevent himself from rolling his eyes. Caring does not come naturally to Dazai, and he has to constantly remind himself that it’s not Atsushi’s fault he cares, and that it’s a good thing that he cares, especially when he’s Caring Too Much and in Dazai’s opinion, hampering his own ability to actually do something about the shit he cares for.

8. What were their first impressions of each other?

Dazai’s first impression of Kunikida is actually that he reminds Dazai of a more righteous and level Mori in that he’s extremely smart, has a clear and consistent set of internal rules that he follows no matter what, and he shapes the world to his will (Dazai has always shaped himself to the world) what sets Kunikida apart from Mori is that he’s genuinely a good person and has rules about what he won’t do in order to achieve his goals, which Mori certainly doesn’t. Still, for a long time Dazai remains wary and fearful of Kunikida. 

(my going theory for Dazai constantly pissing Kunikida off is that Kunikida’s anger makes more sense to him, and is more under his control, than a Kunikida who is completely focused on his ideals. he needs Kunikida to be angry at him because otherwise he feels as swept up and helpless as he did when Mori was directing his actions. it’s going to take him a long fucking time to trust Kunikida)

Kunikida’s first impression of Dazai is that there’s more to him than he lets on, but he can’t tell what that more is. For a while Dazai manages to make him forget that there’s he’s anything other than a regular, lost Gifted - and then they’re on a mission together, and Kunikida is tied up and his notebook is too far away to reach and he’s about to die and Dazai steps back into Mafia-mode, fucking wrecks whoever they’re against, and Kunikida thinks, who are you? 

Headcanon A:  realistic - he’s too Mafia TM to let himself Write Poetry but he does occasionally type some out on his phone. 

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious - he crashes one bike every year. not really on purpose, but he gets into a lot of scraps, his ability goes haywire, you know how it is. he plans for it now and pretends to Dazai that he’s just very regular about his paint jobs even though Dazai’s like “thats a DIFFERENT MODEL WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO FOOL” Chuuya’s like “lalala can’t hear you over the sound of my WELL CARED FOR, FOUR YEAR OLD, BIKE” 

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends - the week after Dazai left was the first time in years Chuuya broke down crying, and cried so hard he couldn’t breathe. he walked into work the next day and Mori, known hardass, sent him home.

Headcanon A:  realistic - he smokes. he picked up the habit from his own dad and then mostly dropped it because Mori disapproved, but later it became a way to bond with Chuuya, get a brief kick, and rebel against Mori all at once. 

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious - he’s DEAD scared of heights, and Chuuya makes fun of him for it mercilessly. 

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends - sometimes he feels so distant from himself that he stops eating and sleeping, moving through the world like ghost. the frightening thing is that it’s really hard to tell the difference between regular Dazai and Dazai who is dissociating so hard he wouldn’t notice his hand being cut off. 

really the only thing that grounds him is physical affection, but he never gets that, so these days he makes do with Kunikida beating him up. as touch starved gays do.

8. What were their first impressions of each other?

Chuuya thought Dazai was an unmitigated brat at first, and hated him. Dazai looked at Chuuya and thought dangerous, and useful, and beautiful.

9. Have they made each other cry?

god, yeah. Chuuya can be viciously cutting when Dazai is down and helpless, and although Dazai doesn't cry in front of people and never has, sometimes Chuuya can get to Dazai enough that he turns away to cry.

Chuuya isn't really ashamed of crying, but he hates when it's Dazai pulling that out of him, and refuses to cry for the sake of his dignity no matter how much Dazai's words hurt.

Headcanon A:  realistic - they’re intersex. canonically. 

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious - they can put away MASSIVE quantities of sugar, but they’re small and all of it has to go somewhere, so eating too much sugar makes their ability behave in weird and funky ways. one person walking by Q as they ate cotton candy reported watching the trees that lined the road turn into lollipops. 

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends - They are also the result of a government experiment, but in their case the person who volunteered them for it was their own mother, who also had an ability. she was trying to test if abilities could be passed on, but the experiment she conducted on herself and her child went horribly wrong, shattering her mind, corrupting her ability, and wreaking havoc on Q’s little self. by the time Mori found them they’d been mistreated by every other doctor in the facility, and were so angry they would have killed Mori if not for Dazai’s presence.

11. What causes them to fight?

literally…what does NOT make them fight? they’re bickerers, and they’re always betting against each other and arguing about things which don’t really matter and tearing each other up. when they’re not doing that they’re the sappiest couple in existence, but they’re never not fighting, so that doesn’t happen lol. 

the serious fights, though? those are about Chuuya’s long history of feeling powerless and helpless, and Dazai’s attempts to redress that imbalance by offering Chuuya more control over him. Chuuya doesn’t know how to explain to Dazai that the lack of control over your own body and life thing is terrifying, and Dazai doesn’t want to say stop pretending I don’t know what that feels like because sometimes similar experiences lead to wildly different reactions and Chuuya desperately wants to feel in control and Dazai has just given up on his body ever being his own and no longer cares what happens to it. so they argue about that a lot and then try to forget they ever argued. 

Dazai’s lack of humanity and his habitual manipulation of everyone around him are also fighting subjects, as are Chuuya’s spending habits (specifically his habit of spending a lot on Dazai, who no longer has an Executive’s salary and is starting to feel humiliatingly like Chuuya’s sugar baby), as is their sex life (very rare; they’re super compatible)
