Carmellas & Stuff
At some point in my super serious college relationship, my boyfriend and his buddies had a weight loss contest. Most weight lost in a month won A NEW CAR!! Or it might have been a hundred bucks. Hell, it could have been a new yoyo- this is not the point of my story. Tom* had the most weight to lose of the fellas in the contest and he could also be fairly... Â hard headed and stubborn. So, suddenly we were both on a diet. I remember he started carrying a gallon jug of water around and would drink 23 a day! (Full disclosure: I made that up.) We worked at a restaurant that had served mainly turkey- it was Thanksgiving all the time! I wore a bonnet-Â more Laura Ingalls than Pilgrim but still, a bonnet. (More disclosure: Sadly, I did not make that up.)Â
Anyway, there was a lot of turkey breast eaten that month, hold the gravy. Tom was a big believer in “what I do, you do”-  he was fairly... controlling that way. In this instance, it was a good thing. We both lost weight. We both went to the gym. We both drank a lot of water. And he WON!! Suck on that, other line cooks!!Â
Here’s what I remember most- the DAY we- I mean HE- was done, we raced to our favorite (now long gone) restaurant, Carmellas. It was a small Italian restaurant, felt chain-y but I actually don’t think it was. And we ordered EVERYthing we hadn’t eaten in a month- fried ravioli, white garlic pizza strips, PASTA. I vividly recall the drool. But here’s the twist!! It was all gross!! The food we had been eating in our pre-diet life, had been loving A LOT, that I bitched about missing out on for the full 30 days was GROSS. The oil. The salt. The oil! NAST.Â
Double twist- obvs, I got over it. It didn’t take long before Tom and I were back to eating as we always had. And not since I was a part of that great diet experiment, have I made such a radical 30 day diet change. Well, until now. I still got 6 days of no sugar, dairy, grain. booze, processed food... OMG! Just pass the turkey breast! but I am already dreaming of my end game. It may not include fried ravioli- right now, I just want a cocktail and a cupcake but I am dreaming. And planning. And ready!!Â
And wondering if I should do things differently this time? I am not 20 anymore. I don’t go to work in a bonnet. (Though I still have it and oft wear it around the house because why wouldn’t I?) I should know better and want better. And yet- it’s amazing how I am already looking to “soothe” this experience with food. I am not sure that the Whole30 has “changed my life in 30 days” the way it promised (yet!) but maybe that isn’t the Whole30′s fault?? Maybe I am holding on to old habits longer than I need to? Than I should? I am putting the HOL in wHOLe30? And all this HOLding is making me think I may be holding on like an assHOLe?
Man, Step Up 2 The Streets on ABC Family has got me all melancHOLy and shit....Â

Exciting things...
There is a very popular restaurant in Appleton called Carmella's. The owners recently opened up another restaurant called SAP. They usually mainly local products, serve all meals and have an incredible bakery section. Those who know me, know my passion is baking, and that I'd love to own my own bakery one day. ANYWAY. My grandparents have some friends who are best friends with the owners of SAP. Apparently my grandparents have talked to their friends about my baking, and love for it. And I guess they mentioned me to the people that own SAP.... They want to meet me... Alskfjfhsla OHMYGOD
