I'm curious about is how you've been planning out Heavenly Hendricks, specifically how you plan to open the story. I've been plotting out a webcomic of my own for a while now, but I'm struggling with what kind of opening to give it that won't feel too cliche or boring.
I obviously don't wanna give a whole lot away but Heavenly Hendricks opens with a scene which is very exciting and very low on explanation. I didn't want to have a narrator saying "so this is the world and these are the characters" (which isn't a bad thing, Pantheon is basically that).
All the explanation will be in the second chapter, I wanted the opening to be an explosion of action. I think showing, rather than telling is always good.

What would be your ideal additions to the roster of the next Smash Bros.? Who would want to knock off the roster or avoid being added?
Well I'd want to knock off Lucario but here we are!
Ok so here are some suggestions (my first suggestion was Little Mac and he got added!)
Ridley (Metroid - needs more representation and he's the main villain of the series, plus it'd be fun to have a slightly bigger character and he'd only need to be a little bit bigger than Bowser, just hunched over... you could even use most of Charizard's move set)
Tingle (Zelda - lovers can love him and haters and beat him up)
Impa (Zelda - using Sheik's move set)
Ganon (Zelda - possibly replacing Ganondorf... unique moveset. If not... new move set for Ganondorf)
Medusa (Kid Icarus... I feel like after Uprising, Kid Icarus will have much more of a presence now. Also female characters are always a bonus)
Someone from Golden Sun or Xenoblade to replace Ike.
Pacman? (Namco are co making the game and yet none of their characters have featured yet)
Bomberman
Simon Blemont (Castlevania... just because Megaman and Pitt ... makes it all feel very Captain N and he needs to complete it)
People to ditch
Wolf, Ike, Pokemon Trainer, ROB, Lucas, Snake, Sheik.
I also want to see Freaky Forms and Pushmo / Pullblox being represented but probably through assist trophies or stages.
All mad ideas. I'm not really that concerned, it'll be good no matter what.
Was it difficult making Dead End feel self-contained? I know any given piece on Cartoon Hangover COULD end up a series, but it's been emphasized they aren't full pilots and should stand on their own. I want to pitch to Frederator, but the concept I've been roughing out keeps getting too bloated with ideas.
I found it quite refreshing. The thing to remember is Adventure Time was NOT pitched as "set in a post apocalyptic world where magic has transformed everything" etc etc it was pitched as "boy and dog go on adventures".
The setting and the universe and your grand plan don't mean squat to anybody. You're not pitching Avatar. If your idea can't boil down to something very basic and very core, it won't go down well in pitches.
Dead End was pitched as "two students and a dog share a cheap flat which happens to be haunted". In my head I was thinking "BUT THEY NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE DOG MAGIC CULT AND THE PORTAL AND BARNEY AND NORMA'S TRAGIC PAST!"
But I knew it wasn't relevant. A short is only going to be 3 or 4 minutes long, you don't want to spend that precious time setting things up for there never to be another episode.
If you watch the first episodes of Adventure Time or Regular Show or Flapjack or Spongebob or ANYTHING... it's just character comedy from the get go. Any overarching plot will come much later.
(remember... characters, not situations or settings, are the key!)
"A Journey or Whatever" - from carldoonan
A comic idea that's been on the back-burner of my brain for a while: Cornelia is the 'greeter' for her village. She's that one mindless character that stands at the entrance to town and says "Welcome to _____ Town!" in every JRPG. She loathes her job. After years of agonizing boredom, she abruptly has a visionary dream. A voice speaks of being the chosen one, saving the world, and blah blah silly cliches. Cornelia is ecstatic! FINALLY, some excitement! Adventure! ...OOPS, WAIT, NEVER MIND, the voice takes it all back. There was a mix-up in the office. The chosen hero left this village centuries ago. Hey, wait, you can't dangle something like that in front of her and then rip it away! Cornelia is infuriated! She demands to see a manager. But, alas, such requests need to be filed in person... And thus, upon waking from this vision, Cornelia grumpily decides to set off on a long and amazing journey to find the complaint department for fate itself... so she can complain that she doesn't get to go on a long and amazing journey.
If you execute this well, it's gold. The premise sounds great! Just gotta make sure all the stuff that happens between "good premise" and "the end" is better than standard fantasy fare. It would be way too easy to take a good premise like this, and then do a monster-a-week sort of thing that really doesn't live up to the idea's potential.
