Are there any head-canons regarding Grounder that I do not care for? Why, yes. I have a few.
Please do not take these as personal attacks.
• Sometimes, I can tell that the animators applied their own headcanons to Grounder’s design, particularly in the way of hands. Sometimes he has claw-like hands (my fave), mech hands, blue hands or very strange and fleshy white guy hands. The White Guy Hands phenomenon had been a critique of mine for a while now. He has no other flesh coloured appendages, why do you feel the need to really hammer home that he’s supposedly a generic Caucasian individual?
• Humanizing him and giving him hair. He is bald. He has a bald, shiny head. There is nothing wrong with being bald! Let a character be bald.
• I’ve yet to see anyone do this, but portraying him as a skinny individual. I have seen this done with other fat characters many times before. I personally find his shape and size to be rather pleasant. If someone feels the need to make him skinny, maybe they have some internal conflicts that need to be worked out!
• Headcanoning him as being genuinely dumb. It upsets me. Media literacy is important if you want to understand the context of where I’m going with this: he is very creative with his schemes and much more laid back than his counterpart. He also has endless gadgets and accessories. He has a lot of potential but is overshadowed by Scratch and Robotnik more often than not. But I can address that more deeply another time lol.
