STARTLING COMICS (vol. 1) #1 (June, 1940). Cover by Kin Platt.
This issue features the original and first appearance of Captain Future, the "dynamo of doom" (no, really, that's the moniker they gave him).
Dr. Andrew Bryant gains super powers (super-strength, super-hearing, telepathy, limited invulnerability, the ability to fly along radio waves, electricity discharges from his hands) when he crosses infra-red energy and gamma rays together.
He was in no way, shape or form related to Captain Future (Curt Newton) the science fiction pulp hero who appeared in his own self-titled pulp magazine. However, both the comic book and pulp magazine had the same publisher, just under different names.
