BALITANG REHIYONAL: Unpaid Construction Worker and Hungry Father arrested for stealing goods and food items in Roxas City

ROXAS, CAPIZ -- Police arrested a father in the northwest province of Capiz on Tuesday (February 25th, 2025 -- Capiz local time) after he was caught stealing goods at the Tiangge with some items of milk, biscuits and among others from a local stall in 'Brgy. Dayao, Roxas City, Capiz'.
Speaking to local radio reporters, the suspect identified is alyas "Nonoy", who is an unemployed construction worker, and the stall owner victim named "Melanie". Police say that Nonoy had not yet been paid by the local construction company and his son was completely hungry, which forced him to steal some goodies and food from the Tiangge.
The local media and non-government organizations are currently working on this situation addressing poverty and extreme hunger for kids and teens with questioning for the province of Capiz to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), World Food Programme (WFP) and National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC).
For a local construction company, there will be potential violations such as unfair labor practices and other similar labor laws. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and National Labor Relations Commission-Regional Arbitration Branch VI (NLRC-RAB 6) may handle this case all at once.
"Nonoy" was charged with Theft under the law of the Revised Penal Code (RPC). Stolen goodies and food items will no longer be recovered. The suspect is now detained in custody by the 'Roxas PNP'.
