Waiting on a Miracle by shepard_2077

Shepard picks up where season 2 leaves off so cleanly it's like I never actually stopped watching the show. They've written the characters so accurately that I actually watched the show in my head as I read -- this is my own personal S3, and has been since I read it. I highly recommend reading this fic if you're itching for closure for the story. It does focus more heavily on Leah and Fatin's relationship and how that develops -- the fic is written entirely from their POVs -- so if that's a deal breaker for you, it's better you know now than later. It's also got a sequel!

After the Fall by shepard_2077

Speaking of sequels, here's the sequel to "Waiting on a Miracle"! It's going to spoil the ending of the previous fic for you if I say too much more about the fic itself, but it's important to note -- this fic is still updating as of writing this post. We're at 20/26 chapters, but Shepard is a writer worth waiting for! If you love long chapters, these two fics are for you.

Mad Girl's Love Song by ThornedRose44

Another continuation fic, this one starts similarly to "Waiting on a Miracle" but immediately takes a sharp left turn. It's a shorter fic, sitting at just about half of Miracle, but it's not any less gripping of a story. If you like the thriller genre and works that make you think, you'll absolutely love this fic. Be careful though, it has a very good chance of making you cry!

Where the Wild Things Grow by filmfanatic82

I've made a post about this fic before (here) so it's a no-brainer that it ends up on this list. It's a beautifully-written summer camp AU that captures the essence of friendship, love, loss, and what it means to fight for what you care about in less than 200k words. I actually wish this one was longer! Each chapter is a different POV from a different Unsinkable; filmfanatic82 knows these characters like they created the girls themselves, and it's proven in the way these chapters are divided and written.

Old Flame by twop69

This fic... this was the first long Shoni fic I ever read, and it set the bar high. The quality of the writing itself is lovely. It's a slow burn (no seriously: S L O W B U R N), it's classic Enemies to Lovers, Toni's a firefighter and Shelby... well, I'll leave some things as a surprise. But it's cute, I think I read the whole thing in 3 days I was so hooked on it? My wife was impressed and excited that I'd found a fic that had so thoroughly hooked me. It's worth the read, really.

Return to the Wilds by filmfanatic82

This one I always want to toss into the "continuations" pile but it's not really a continuation, it's more an alternate timeline than an alternate universe: and it kind of follows "Mad Girl's Love Song" in some of its premise. It's also written by the lovely filmfanatic82, who knows these girls like the back of their hand -- so it's a multi-POV fic and it is a great one at that. It's gripping, it has action, it's still really similar to the source material compared to the last fic of theirs mentioned. If you like "more island scenarios with the girls," you'll like this one.

and for the past year (or maybe even longer, oh my word) I've been writing a post-canon Owl House fan-fiction with a mix of canon and original characters. When I finished The Owl House for the first time, I was super sad and wanted there to be more to explore, so that's what my fic aims to achieve.

I've put in a lot of work on world building, and all that comes out to about four "episodes" (chapters) about Gravesfield, Hexside, and the Boiling Isles, with four more to come, hopefully sometime soon.

The series takes place about twenty years after the original show, and follows an entirely original cast with the canon cast making limited, but significant appearances. They're adults now and kind of badass.

I've known Sai Syed for less than four hours and I already can't stand him. He is the most insistent, most overbearing, most FANATIC person I've ever met. Here we are, sitting in a freaking AWESOME magical mystery room, in a magical land, and, like, it's, just, like-- deep breath, Jana. THERE'S A LOT OF MAGIC! And, now, a guy's fallen out of our ceiling and landed face down on the third bed (which makes three out of four accounted for) and all he wants to do is talk about real world politics or something. Ugh!

“I WILL NOT ALLOW THIS ARGUMENT TO BE DERAILED WHEN I AM SO CLOSE TO GETTING THROUGH TO YOU!”

I want to stick out my tongue and hiss at him, but as far as my books have shown, that's not what sophisticated folk do. Oh, and, by the way, decidedly NOT close to getting through to me. Boooo. My fingers shake with the urge to ball up into fists, but I resist, for the sake of my violin. Oh yeah, that's right, by the way. Jana Jabuer is a proud, elegant violinist, with big dreams and big things ahead of her! Not to be confused with the guy in front of me, who fell out of the ceiling. He's kind of--well, actually, it's hard to tell if he's big or small or, really, anything. He's tangled up like a pretzel.

If you mean everything from the sacrifice to the present, then I think he'd be horrified. He wouldn't want to believe it, but it might be even more horrifying because I think deep down he'd know he's capable of making that sacrifice in the right circumstances. Honestly it might even be enough of a shock to his system that it could be the start of him re-evaluating the dream and getting out of his sunk cost fallacy thinking.

On the other hand, if you mean specifically NeoGriffith's actions, and he's unaware of the Eclipse, then that might be even more interesting as a starting point lol, because I think he'd be on board. Like say he was transported to Falconia, got a tour, and had a chat with NeoGriffith. NGriff explains that he talked to God, got some divine abilities, and has used them to turn Midland into a utopia while explaining that the dangerous high fantasy genre shift was necessary both to stop a world-destroying monster and also to create something for humanity to unite against.

Like, Griffith would absolutely buy in. He'd be riding that high of future success and having his actions condoned by God so hard that the little bits of dissonance would take a long time to make him second guess anything. Like where are the original Hawks? And why does NeoGriffith kinda creep him out? He seems a little too inhuman, and does Griffith really want to change like that someday?

And of course in this concept he'd have to be stuck in the future for a little while, so he and Guts can meet lol, and (after shock and awe and emotion) Guts can tell him the details that NGriff skipped, and Griffith can have that horrified crisis, maybe even dig his heels in and refuse to accept it. But then obviously there's a moment of truth where he somehow has to choose between Guts and Falconia and chooses Guts.

And that's probably when he wakes up back in the past, and gets the chance to change everything lol.

Yes, actually, I could totally believe NGriff/Guts as a ship.

The thing about Guts post-Eclipse is that he still wants Griffith's attention. Now he wants to fight and maybe kill him to get it, but if NGriff went up to him with an intense look in his eyes and said, "hey so I'm still in love with you, will you join me again?" I fully believe Guts would. He might need some kind of proof (eg NGriff nearly letting Guts kill him in a fight or something) but if Guts did believe NGriff could still be his ~true friend~ or lover if he's self aware or whatever, that Griffith's feelings for him still lay him low and put them on an equal footing, imo he'd go for it.

He's not that loyal to Casca frankly, and he's not morally opposed to anything NGriff is doing. He would not enjoy being surrounded by monsters in Falconia, but I don't think it would be a deal breaker. Guts and Griffith are enemies because Griffith betrayed Guts and went out of his way to sever that relationship and emotionally hurt him. But if Griffith regretted it (and especially if he distinguished himself from Femto to an extent), Guts would move past it. Guts was desperately searching for regret at the Hill of Swords so he could move past it, imo.

And for Griffith's part, I think you could make a case that if he was forced to accept that his feelings for Guts were still real and still had the power to fuck him over, he'd extend the offer to try to have his cake and eat it too this time, having learned from past mistakes. I mean I could also see him remaining in denial until one of them dies, or deciding to kill Guts to save himself instead, or whatever, but yk, as one possible option that leads to a griffguts ending, I think it's believable.

I actually wrote my own take on this as a fic and made it easier on myself by taking it as read that NGriff has realized he still has feelings and decided to deal with them in a way that doesn't get in the way of his dream this time. Plus Guts has succumbed to the armour for a while so now he can relate to NGriff lol.

I feel like it's a pretty plausible scenario, at least for me.

Well, that's it folks. We've reached the end. And I'm about ready to start sobbing with three newborn baby dragons.

I wonder if childbirth is this tedious for women?

That’s not fair. I know I’m lucky. I know that I could be on the floor writhing in pain right now.

Laying the eggs hurt, but probably not nearly as much as giving birth to three full term babies.

It’s been two hours since Niamh’s yell rousted Baz and I out of our marriage bed (shortest honeymoon ever). 

Maybe the group trying to survive without Guts in a journey to rescue them. And the best thing is Guts and Casca doesn’t even have to be exploring Falconia together, maybe Casca regaining all her memories by her own and meeting Luca and the girls, learning about Rickert (that he’s alive and left Falconia) Guts left without sword in a peaceful place full of apostles? and eventually feeling more sadness than hatred. Griffith having to deal with feelings.

All of this might only happen in fanfiction, but I’d like to know what you’d like to see in this scenario. (Also, you don’t know how bad I want for Griffith to manhandle Guts in berserk armour, I just think,,, it’d be fun to write)

Idk, I think Guts would have to be in like a dungeon or something, or at least an inescapable prison. If he was able to more or less come and go in Falconia he’d find a sword and start fucking shit up imo. And I don’t think seeing Falconia would change his mind about anything, I don’t think he really values the idea of a peaceful city. Casca seeing Falconia would be interesting since, if you ignore Casca walking that back during the waterfall scene at least lol, she was invested in Griffith’s dream and wanted to see it happen. Though I also think if she wasn’t imprisoned she would just leave, unless she voluntarily stayed for werebaby or something lol, and I personally wouldn’t enjoy that.

Idk, honestly I was very happy that Guts and Casca were separated lol, so I don’t have a lot of thoughts on what they’d be like imprisoned together. Plus I’m into darker more messed up interpersonal dynamics so if anything if they were trapped together I’d want to see Casca breaking down due to trauma, Guts freaking out and making it worse, and if they recovered to the point of lucid interaction then Casca blaming Guts for a good portion of the shit she went through, rational or not, Guts getting defensive... what can I say lol, I like strife.

Definitely would like to see Griffith dealing with feelings. Maybe if he kidnapped Guts with the ‘werebaby needs parents’ excuse but deep down it’s to be around Guts again.
