Reminder to NOT celebrate Canada Day. #CancelCanadaday
It's a holiday that celebrates the colonization of indigenous people.
Something that noticed now that I'm older is that a lot of Canadians act like Canada is an polite untopia with no racism because we are ""better then America"". But right now there are police literally collecting the hair of black and indigenous people and having them as trophies.
I may not know a lot about indigenous people right now but I am educating myself to learn more about the Canadian history of indigenous people to be a better ally. Canada has a horrible history of treating indigenous people terribly and most people don't seem to talk and acknowledge it.
Please don't celebrate this holiday and don't wear red.
Instead of celebrating Canada day, Please donate to donate to indigenous land defense projects. If you don't have a lot of money then educate yourself and do self reflection. You can also simply have a fun non-holiday related summer day as long as you aren't celebrating Canada day and wearing red.
