I have a fun bartender related question for you š what would you put in a george-themed drink?
YAY HI MO I LOVE THIS QUESTION. also reminded me that i have a similar-ish ask sitting in my drafts i need to get back to today so thank you šāāļø
for a george themed cocktail i think i would want it to be some kind of riff on a classic. something timeless but with a modern kind of twist, maybe something punchier than expected? iām thinking a clean, crisp flavor profile rather something warm and boldāpolished and relatively approachable, but also sharp and lightbodied? basically something that appears very smooth and sophisticated on the surface, but with a little bit of bite, something that makes you go āoh! wowā¦.ā on your very first sip.
SO. thatās a lot of words without having actually said anything of substance but for me those characteristics are immediately pointing towards gin! a white lady would be an interesting choice, but for george i think i would want to stick with the simpler spec as our baseājust gin, cointreau and lemon! i think including any simple/egg white would soften it too much for our purposes.
from here itās just about building out that complex underlay which is a little bit trickier to do without experimenting with it but i think adding a little bit of green chartreuse could be really interestingā¦i know thereās a riff called the verdant lady which i think adds green chartreuse and mint also? could be very fun i think! i love love LOVE green chartreuse and am still seeking out a bottle for my bar bc its so hard to get ahold of right now but itās so good. very herbaceous and complex and i think could give exactly the kind of zip iām looking for here!
(alsoā¦,i have seen people do a āblue ladyā which is a white lady with the cointreau swapped out for blue curaƧao which isnāt really going to change the flavor a WHOLE lot imo other than maybe making it a tinyyyy bit sweeter. but it would make it blue! which i think would be super cuteā¦for my part i donāt keep blue curaƧao for my home bar so i rarely use it but i am willing to make an exception for george š©µ)
ORRRRR we could do a necromancer which i have been MEANING to try and have yet to get around to. itās a riff on a corpse reviver no 2, which goes heavy on the absinthe and uses elderflower liqueur instead of orangeā¦but i canāt decide if i think the licorice/anise flavor weād get from the absinthe is too spicysweet for the george flavor profile i have in my headā¦
without actually playing around with them itās hard for me to say for sureeeee which i would go with but iām leaning more towards our white lady options! in any case itās a jumping off point (which iām realizing is insane to say when i just rambled for five paragraphs but here we are š)
