The events that she’d just lived with are still cloudy in her mind as it works to try to make sense of them. Knowing about magic and with it the existence of demons was something that she’d never once had a hard time getting her head around. Magic was in her blood and her parents knew what they were talking about so there had been no doubt in her mind about the truth of the situation.. But having a horrifyingly distorted creature try to carve out your heart with a still bloody blade was another matter entirely. 

Though despite her frayed nerves and a few grazes she was miraculously in one piece, something she’d have more time to be thankful of as soon as she managed to find her boyfriend. She hadn’t gone too far from the station, only daring to go a few block to the river after her and Sai had taken the nearest exit they could when they’d had the chance. Just as she’s beginning to work herself up again over how stupid she was to leave Caleb’s side and worry over how she’s going to be able to find him again, her eyes land on a familiar figure. 

“Ohmygod, Caleb.” The words are exhaled more than anything as joy and relief shine out through her eyes until she spots all that red staining his arm and they’re quickly replaced by worry as she wastes no time in running towards him. 

When her parents had shared their knowledge of the world and all its possibilities with her and her sister all those years ago, Gaia had never once thought that hell would open within her lifetime. It had always seemed such an abstract idea to her, a story parents told their witch children to scare them into good behaviour. Her rosy view of the world had always refused to allow that such darkness was a possibility and she still refused to believe that that was the case. But then she’d found herself unsteady as the ground moved beneath her and having to use the ice magic that coursed through her veins to save herself from fire. Thoughts had started racing, for once in her life her mind going to the worst case scenario instead of trying to find a happier alternative. Call it a gut feeling but the witch was sure that this was something more than just a freak earthquake.

She’s fighting the panic that keeps rising with every step she takes, desperately hoping for somewhere she recognises but her sense of direction abandoning her as it always did, mocking her with its almost nonexistence. Except it wasn’t just the fact that she was lost and had no way of knowing what was going on that was causing her breath to catch in her throat and frustrated tears to burn at her eyes. Gaia had no way of knowing if one of the most important people in her life was safe. Not for the first time she cursed breaking her phone when it would have solved most of her current problems so easily. As it was she was left in the dark, knowledge eluding her and leaving her in the place she hated the most. Her usual positive outlook struggled to lift her up under the weight of all her worry and uncertainty. 

The steps she takes are almost frantic, eager to try and locate some sort of landmark to slow her heart so it doesn’t feel like it’s about to beat out of her chest. It seemed hopeless with half the city in rubble or ashes and with the realisation that something so constant in her life was leaving her, Gaia felt any semblance of calm she’d been clinging to leave her. It was only the sight of what she thought was a familiar figure that soothed some of her frayed nerves. Just the possible sight of her boyfriend reminding her that not everything was lost, there would always be something to keep going for. Without any consideration for what else might have heard her, she was calling out his name. “Caleb?”
