2. What are you feelings on the future right now? For the world and for you?

I'm hopeful for both! With varying degrees of sadness interwoven in both cases lol. I feel like (speaking re: the world) we're at the end of a lot of illusions, if that makes sense? Like, we've TRIED a lot of things and they either haven't worked or their mask has been stripped away in a brutal way that reveals the truth about their nature. And that always contains a little bit of inherent hope within it because it means we can CHANGE what we're doing/reject some of the things and demand better. Like, idk. The hard-won wisdom that only comes from bitter experience is what is needed for change and we're really IN IT now. And so change, good change, can feel very near. The night is darkest right before the dawn type of thing. (Right? Right??? Sweats nervously.)

That said, the human condition is kind of just always that so I am not saying anything new.

Personally, I am feeling some sadness! At the passage of time and the sense that many doors have closed. But also underneath that I am excited to get older and also become more and more a person focused on what really matters and less consumed with what doesn't (much of the inside of my brain.)

6. What are you excited about?

I'm excited to see the ocean in about a month!! I'm excited to teach Pride and Prejudice again. :))))))))))))))))))))))) I'm excited for spring! Whenever it arrives! I'm excited to write again.

Intricate - what's a subject you have random knowledge about?

Hi do you want to hear about my knowledge of old Norse magic and how it relates to weaving and also storms because I can actually tell you so much about that and also aggressively point you to a scene in Njal's Saga where there are valkyries weaving the fate of a battle on a loom made out of human entrails which is very cool if gross and also sedir was a female magic, to be accused of using it as a man was considered shameful anyway I have Information about this.

Leaves - favorite candle scent?

I'm going to be basic and say I love a good cinnamon, but I also have a wonderful lemon and verbana at home which smells lovely!

Pie - what's your favorite type of pie?

Pie is actually my favourite desert ever so you my friend have opened a pandora's box with this question.

My mother makes an apple pie with just apples sugar and cinnamon which isn't too sweet, and that's the best breakfast pie - you have it cold with hot custard (shop-bought is fine but home-made is also wonderful). Then, strawberry and rhubarb is such a good pie combination, I love that so much, but I also have a very strong soft spot for redcurrent meringue pie, very like lemon but I prefer it (with italian meringue). Also apricot cobbler but that isn't really a pie.

1. TIGERS tigers tigers tigers TIGERRRRSSS

Beautiful, terrifying, sleek, iconic, mournful, gorgeous, somehow also cute?? I love them.

2. Birds!! No specific kind—though I love ducks and bluebirds and cardinals and hawks. All birds are great. I love to watch them.

3. Sea-otters. They are as cute as people say. Though I went to an aquarium in Seattle a few weekends ago and just watched this seal swim in the most mesmerizing pattern for about 10 minutes straight. I love all sea creatures. Want to stare at them for hours.

4. Dogs. Definitely not all dogs and I’m wary more often than not when meeting a new one but they’ve just been part of my life for so long and I have affection for them and I love them especially when they stick their heads out of car windows and I see them in passing.

6. What’s the last thing that made you laugh?

found out dustfinger was hot in the inkheart movie and watched it like...the next day after having it on my shelf for a few years, does that count? xD

17--a character you find comforting?

I just finished a reread of LotR so Samwise popped into my head immediately. Also Coulson from Agents of Shield and Tress from Tress of the Emerald Sea.

19--a character you'd be roommates with?

I feel like Valancy Stirling from The Blue Castle or Sophie Hatter from Howl's Moving Castle would be good roommates! oooh or Evie from the Mummy movies, basically I need someone with a little more vim than me who can encourage me to go places or do things

5. What’s something that has brought you joy in the last week?

I had a really thoughtful and fun discussion about friendship with my seniors based on our readings in Wind, Sand, and Stars! (There's a beautiful section where he talks about the joy of human relationships and friendships specifically in the chapter we just read.) It was one of those times where the discussion was very personal, both on my end and the students, but in a GOOD way. They connected with the subject matter really deeply and had good things to say both in general but also TO each other.
