London Fog Cake! Chocolate cake with vanilla earl grey buttercream and salted caramel. Recipe courtesy of The Cake Blog! #yearofcake #cake9 #thecakeblog
I cook all pasta in a pasta boat because I hate boiling. 15 bucks on amazon, also seen them in goodwills. With mine, you measure pasta by sticking it through the handle of the boat, then you fill with water to the line the instructions say for that amount of pasta. Stick in microwave for instructed amount of time. So there's instruction following, but pretty manageable & you don't need to monitor. I just use jar sauce and add meat I cook while pasta's microwaving, or I toss in pepperoni.

I played DAI completely at random for like two months last year without any context and it was a blast but I haven't touched it since. I never did beat it but it was a cool game. Had a fun time.
I was tempted to start with DAI but I felt like I should go in order -- maybe I will skip Origins though, I dunno, what do you people recommend?
sharkalanche replied to your post “lol I started playing Dragon Age and the battle system is one that I...”
origins? its battle system takes a while to get used to for sure. set it to easy if you havent already?
I should probably do that! haha I dunno why I didn’t think of that. But yeah it probably didn’t help that my first few enemies were FREAKING SPIDERS

Don't feel bad no one played it :(
The only way I found out about it at all is one of my online friends is a super Overworks fan and kept talking about it and I stumbled on it back when Best Buy still carried it
shortazn97 replied to your post“I don't get what has so many people demanding Azula get some shitty redemption arc, the girl was hyped as fuck to inherit a genocidal regime in position to dominate the entire world. The cliche of "female villain isn't really a bad person she just needed love :(" is so played out it was actually refreshing to see a bad girl stay bad for once” PREACH, and did anon never watch the last few episodes of book 3 where all that sad stuff with Azula completely broke my heart because...
It's frustrating because while the series is happy to show her breaking down in exacting detail it's really not interested in the show's own subtext that she's also a victim of shitty parentage, or in the remote possibility of her ever recovering. In the show's eyes she's not only unredeemable, but deserves her fate even though there are many people in the series far worse than her who get off with lighter punishments than being left to rot in an asylum because cray-cray. She's not even left in a position like Ozai, who's still powerful and manipulative and indeed treated better than her despite being the propagator of Zuko's misery and being fully prepared to torch the entire fucking Earth Kingdom.
If she was ever going to get a real fair shake as a more deeply explored character, it WOULD have been in The Search, but Yang's only really interested in exploiting her misery as a reflection of how "bad" she is or shifting awkwardly between Regular Azula and Psychotic Azula pretty much whenever the pacing needs a shot in the arm. We're meant to sympathize with her in a vague, distant way, but absolutely nothing else beyond that.
I'd say she's the series' Gollum now, except Gollum was actually treated like a character and given a fair shake.

The cliche of "female villain isn't really a bad person she just needed love :(" is so played out it was actually refreshing to see a bad girl stay bad for once” Also maybe I'm just having trouble thinking of examples but I feel like there aren't really that many cases of female villains getting solid meaningful redemption arcs, not the way plenty of male villains do?
Yeah, it's weird for OP to make a statement like that, since female villains will USUALLY be Completely Irredeemable (like to a degree far more so than male villains. Male villains, too, are usually intended to be Complex and even when they're evil they're portrayed as worthy of the protagonist's respect, whereas female villains are usually just LOL EVIL CRAZY BITCH), or when they turn 'good' it's usually handled tritely and without any depth or major character growth.
I think it's pretty safe to say that there are very VERY few female character arcs handled half as intensely and with as much depth as Zuko's.
Female villains who are evil and love what they do are great fun, but they're honestly pretty rare, and there's usually a "reason" for them to be the way they are. Maleficents are pretty uncommon.
cake9 replied to your post“¦I really hope that most (all) of these spoilers for The Search Part 3...” I always figured they were not only not gonna give me the proper opportunity for Azula redemptive development, they were gonna additionally just fuck things up further. Like why, she's such an important character I wanted so many things not delivered
shortazn97 replied to your post“ shortazn97 said: the second mistake is thinking the search was going...” the sibling's relationship is one of the most important things to me and they just went "lol what relationship"
In retrospect Azula is only here for two reasons:
1) To grab fan attention and
2) to make Zuko look good
Azula does not get any proper development or characterization through what should be this hugely significant storyline, reinforced by the very makeup of the group here.
(I like Katara and Sokka of course, but I feel still that it would have been considerably more interesting if it had been Zuko, Azula, Mai, Ty Lee and Aang, with Aang being there mostly to support Zuko but the real dynamics going on between the Dangerous Ladies and Zuko, wrapping up an old quartet of 'friends' on one last adventure together with a lot of new baggage. As it stands there's some extremely token novelty in Azula being "part" of Team Avatar but she hardly interacts with any of them except to make the occasional snide comment and there's otherwise no point in it. That's a lot of wasted potential character dynamics, and even Azula getting to interact with Aang on some level would have been really interesting to see)
Pretty much her only contribution is to be unhinged and irredeemably evil, so that Zuko looks incredibly saintlike for not only giving her ANY leeway (and conveniently reinforcing that yes, she is completely horrible and not worth any of his good graces and everything he ever believed about her since early childhood is 100% on the money) but for his few moments of big brotherliness. And in return for this the story only develops her with "oh yeah her visions weren't the result of a spirit or anything she's just crazy lol" and she fucks off. She doesn't even get any resolution to the (now conclusively fake) vision she had that Ursa loved her, and what's revealed really makes it all the more damning.
Sorry, a peck on the cheek doesn't really convince me.
Like the degree to which AtLA has always gone on about Zuko deserving redemption and his dual nature and internal struggle and giving him people to support him and banging the "everyone deserves a second chance" gong but is happy to just write off Azula as 'the bad seed' and that's it is incredibly frustrating
