I wanted to be surrounded by those who valued living over working, spending time outdoors over spending time online, and doing things for themselves over paying for every possible convenience.

Books I read in 2019
For shits and giggles I decided to track the books I read this year. (Partially inspired by Pres Obama’s annual list). I think Goodreads is toxic, so I just kept it on a google doc. I actually read much non-fiction than I was expecting. And of course, this is NO WAY amounts to how much I read on AO3.....
More was never the answer. The answer, it turned out, was always less.
The Year of Less by Cait Flanders
So, I've been reading a lot of decluttering type books (Gretchen Rubin's Outer Order, Inner Calm, Cait Flanders' The Year of Less, Niki Brantmark's Lagom: Not Too Little, Not Too Much - and of course, Marie Kondo on Netflix).
I have come to the realization that I've got 3 obstacles to overcome
the mindset that I might need that some day
the mindset that I paid money for that
MY FAMILY
Once I get past those - piece of cake!
One lesson I’ve learned countless times over the years is that whenever you let go of something negative in your life, you make room for something positive.

I’ve been listening to the audiobook A Year of Less by Cait Flanders (borrowed online from the local library) and trying to be a bit more aware of what I spend my money on. As I tend towards minimalism anyway I thought it would be easy…

The Year of Less by Cait Flanders
I had been wanting to read this book for awhile (and Flanders's efforts to buy nothing had inspired me to do multiple months of no clothes buying in 2019). I enjoyed the practical "how-to" moments of this memoir, but reading about Flanders's life was compelling, and more the focus of the book than a "how to go with less" manual. It's the story of her life up until this moment and this decision, and I was able to learn more about Flanders and learn some things about myself as well.
