Fish Sandwich @ Cafe Borrone

Yummy crispy cod and sauce has great flavor. Veggies fresh and crunchy and tasty. This was a daily so might not be available when you visit.

Yesterday was such a beautiful day! It has been pretty much raining nonstop here in the Bay Area for about 2 weeks, and yesterday was the first day it cleared up! It was beautiful and sunny - almost 70 degrees! Crazy weather. My friend Maddie is home from her boarding school in Santa Barbara, so I try to spend as much time with her when she is back. We both share a huge love for brunch, so we drove down to Cafe Borrone in Menlo Park because they have some of the best breakfast around. Maddie and I both love French Toast, so we had to get that! The berries on top give the dish some nice color and freshness. 

I also got Borrone's famous drink - the Frosted Mocha. The whipped cream is some of the best I've ever had! Maddie got a strawberry smoothie which was also delicious! It was so nice to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. 

After we ate we headed over to Kepler's next door and then Stanford Mall to do some last minute Christmas shopping. Merry Christmas Eve everyone! I hope you give Cafe Borrone a try!

I particularly enjoyed a proscuitto/burrata/grilled leeks appetizer plate, crab spaghetti and a gin fizz, but everything was excellent. Make sure you save room for dessert; the bombolone are out of control (see below).

Borrone MarketBar // 1010 El Camino Real, Menlo Park

Today I had lunch with my friend H at Café Borrone in Menlo Park. She of course ordered her typical charcuterie plate (pronounced “shar-coo-ter-ree” - a fancy word for prepared meat products). I, on account of a big breakfast, was feeling quite full, so I opted for a simple hot chocolate with whipped cream, which cost $3.27 total.

My drink was prepared within two minutes, and it was delicious! The thing that really separated it from other cups of hot chocolate was the whipped cream. It was light, but not overly fluffy, and sweet, but not saccharine. Best of all, it came in an amount that perfectly balanced the semi-sweet hot chocolate in taste and consistency.

Café Borrone is an excellent place for a lunch meeting because of its convenient location: right next to the Menlo Park Caltrain Station. However, if you’re looking for a quick bite, it is probably better to save Borrone’s for a lazy Sunday - H’s lunch took quite a while to reach us.

I’ve heard rave reviews about Borrone’s frozen mocha, but I skipped it this time because I’m not much of a coffee person. However, because of the excellent cup of hot chocolate I was served today, I may try it out next time.

The average cost of lunch here is about $20 (including the tip), which is on the expensive side. However, I think the quality of the food and drink here is worth the price, and I definitely recommend it!
