A stone statue in an unmapped corner of the forest, an invocation older than Bill himself, and a girl who found herself alone in the world were all that remained of his earthly influence. As the townspeople brushed the events of the past few days under the rug, the matter of what they should do with her came to tentative conversation. They couldn’t get a word out of her about her ‘true’ family (unable to grasp that the only one who had ever fit the title was gone) and she was too young to be left to fend for herself. It had been Mabel who had extended a hand of friendship first, saying that she knew what it was like to be caught up in Bill’s schemes too, that no matter what she’d done, she could change for the better.
The logistics of it had been difficult to work out, with the younger Pines departing for home and the older embarking on a long-overdue voyage, but they’d found accommodations for her within a few days. They promised to call to check in on her and to visit when they could and then they parted ways, leaving her alone again.
That night was the first where her dreams were filled with light, like they used to be. Tears turned into a trail of stars before they could hit the ground, leading her on a winding path through her dreamscape that ended with a familiar shape.
Something about him seemed... off. It was the same sensation that came often when speaking in dreams to those you knew in waking life; an inkling that the person before you, though close enough to fool even yourself, said something just a little too perfect, too in line with how you wished, dreamed, they were.
But it was gone in an instant.
Arms were extended, open and reassuring and drawing her close in a hug, knowing exactly what she needed in that moment. His words were softer than usual. “MISS ME?”

“just… come back alive, okay?”
five word prompts
Words so soft Shinichi wasn’t entirely sure he was supposedto hear it ( most definitely not, given who spoke ) but he did, and that is theimportant part.
He stops just shy of taking a step outside, only prolongingthe inevitable because while Shinichi didn’t want to leave ( even he knew thatcases weren’t everything, that there are some things — people — that should be held so much closerto the heart. to never be let go as he had so foolishly done so long ago ) he stillhad to. ( they were soclose, this was the last battle. maybe after tonight hecan finally. finally— )
Gently, carefully, ( because while Nicolette could beat himup any day of the weak, she still was so fragile in some ways ) Shinichiwrapped his arms around his love, tucking her head neatly under his chin. ( hewants to see her face, but he couldn’t be sure what his own was looking like —not with all the emotions whirling around beyond control )
“Moron. Of course I’ll be back alive.” Words. Just words, itwasn’t something he could ever promise with absolute certainty — after all,Nicolette was far too clever to not see that this time it wasn’t ‘just’ a case.
Something big was going to change tonight. For better or forworse.
Still, words is all he can give at the moment ( and how hewishes there was something more he could do — more to the one who deserves itall ) but he merely tightens his hold for a moment before pulling back, finallyable to make a grin that felt acceptable.
“I’ll be back before you know it, and then we can finally goon that trip I promised you. If you want we can even go visit my parents, as Iknow my mom has been asking to see you again for a shopping trip…” His voice istoo light, and eventually it fades. All he can do is just smile, ( soremarkably fond, so full of love, for her, always all for her ) and his handsoft as it brushes some hair from the other’s forehead so he can land a kissthere. And then another to her nose. And finally lips.
“Be back soon.” And this time, he’ll stay for good.
"God, I am so hot!!”
sunday in the park with george sentences
The words come from seemingly nowhere and the detective couldn’t help but give Nicolette’s attire a glance...and remained in his confused state.
“How are you not cold when the weather is like this? You aren’t even wearing much...” He really envied those who weren’t affected by the cold...

It had begun as a joke, a throwaway line he’d offered as a play on the title he’d given her. “IF YOU’RE GONNA ASCEND TO THE THRONE YOU’LL NEED TO LOOK THE PART!” Serious consideration had only been given to the matter once he’d seen the gleam in her eye at the idea. He’d extended the offer only once before to someone much less cooperative, though he figured it was easier to cast aside your humanity when you were the only one left as opposed to when there were still family and friends to remain loyal to.
The logistics, however, were still a work-in-progress. He spun in place like an errant star, thinking and speaking at equal rates. “HAVE YOU GRASPED FIFTH-DIMENSIONAL TIME YET?” Rather than wait on her answer (he’d only asked to be a nuisance, humans couldn’t perceive beyond four dimensions without some serious rewiring) he adopted a put-upon expression, the face of someone performing a difficult unit conversion. “I THINK ON OLD GREG’S CALENDAR TODAY WOULD BE... SOME DATE IN DECEMBER! YOU NEVER STRUCK ME AS MUCH OF A WINTER BABY BUT IT’S UP TO YOU! I CAN DO A LOT OF THINGS, KIDDO, BUT SO LONG AS THAT OVERGROWN TODDLER’S GOT HIS GRUBBY MITTS ON THE TIMESTREAM, YOU’LL ONLY GET TO PICK THE DAY ONCE.”
Casually, as though choosing one’s own birthday was routine, he continued spinning faintly in the air like a flashy pinwheel. However, both his rambling and his motion stopped short as another consideration came to mind, the triangle snapping himself to attention with a gesture in kind. “HANG ON, I’M GETTING AHEAD OF OURSELVES-- MAN, AM I OUT OF PRACTICE! FIRST WE GOTTA PICK OUT WHICH SOLAR SYSTEM WE’RE GONNA USE! GOT ANY IN MIND?”
