When Did I Start Shipping Them? I watched episode one and it tripped my 'fucked up relationship' sensors: I don't know if shipping them is really the right word for my emotions about this particular pairing, but I knew from the get-go that I wanted to explore the most toxic aspects of their relationship to each other. Why Do I Ship Them? There's a lot of themes in Rick and Morty that I think are interesting, but Rick and Morty's codependence and both of their reluctant awareness of it is something that strikes me as the heart of the show. Throughout the show, Rick is using Morty in a harmful way, and introducing romantic/sexual dynamics to that makes it easier to viscerally explore that guilt and abuse. There are so many moments in the show that are about the way Rick disregards Morty's boundaries, and it just... makes me need fanfiction about them where that's in the spotlight.
Favourite Fanfiction Tropes/Staples? Fanfics that pay attention to both sides of the codependency: fics where Rick is forced to confront what it would look like for him if Morty left, and how far he's willing to go to prevent it. Also, fics that are brutal about injuries and the threat of their adventures, in a way that the cartoon style of the show isn't quite capable of conveying.
