Okay, I kinda brought it on myself, but, playing with XEDRA evolved, I wound up having to fight vampires. Long story short, I entered a cathedral planning to climb it and get a good view of the area, which did help. Soon after I entered, a bunch of hostile to zombies ferals came from outside. They were ranting about submitting to their masters will and being sensitive of their master's needs as they tried to murder me. A mixture of running, clever use of furniture, and a knife blade remounted onto a six foot stick won me the day there.
Then, I went back to my base nearby, just a basement I reactivated the power grid on and reattached to a solar panel I found and set up. Anyways, I felt something dark stalking my dreams, so I went back to the place these strange zombie killing ferals were. If nothing else, maybe a church would grant sanctuary despite the blood I spilled in self defense there.
I decided to poke around in the basement, and found a hallway where they stored furniture, and heard more ranting. At this point, I had put together what was happening, and, when the ghouls (because the mods terminology is stupid) in the kitchen came for me, I had the furniture rearranged to be a killbox. They got tangled on chairs and couches while I stabbed them to death. Then, I steeled myself for the next room. There was a vampire, almost indistinguishable from human besides the fangs. It was a difficult fight, I did my best to keep them near my maximum reach, but they landed a few blows on me before I stabbed their heart.
I noticed not all the doors to the basement were present in this space, so I descended the other stairs, convinced it was either me or this den of vampires. I remembered my magic, though, I didn't have enough mana to summon my creatures from dream, I did have enough to produce some spectral arms to help defend myself.
This was where more of those vampires were, two of the pretty ones, and one that looked like someone took a woodchipper to count Orlok's face. Luckily, they were stupid, and chased me up stairs, which I managed to hold, stabbing down on them as they tried to come up until nothing moved beneath me. Back down, there, a quick sweep revealed a ruined archive, and one more basement stair missing.
The last set of stairs led to a crypt, containing more vampires, again, two pretty ones, and a count orlok, alongside a ghoul and a giant bat. The bat and the ghoul make the mistake of trying to rush a spearman in a hallway. Having perforated the fools, I catch my breath before stepping over the corpses.
The vampires are distracted by, well, people who didn't have faces on the other side of a set of bars. This is all the confirmation that I needed that I got lucky, these vampires were as dumb as ferals, as addled by the blob as most living humans. I quietly put down my spear, and drew the pistol from the holster. Three bullets sunk into the count Orlok to little effect, and he was bearing down, I quickly dropped the gun and pulled up the spear, bracing as he leaped, and cutting him across the gut. I stabbed several more times as he kept trying to grab me. Soon, I hit the heart.
I tried switching to the high caliber rifle I had slung tightly in front of me this whole time, and found that they did little more, three 7.62 rounds to the face didn't stop the first pretty vampire to attack. A spear put her down just fine. With the second one, I just ambushed him with the spear since the gunfire had not redirected his attention to me. With the final vampire dead, I decided to kill the faceless humanoids as well before opening the door and grabbing the relic behind it. That night, no being stalked in my sleep, and I returned to haul all the corpses out and burn them, because while I smashed them enough to prevent zombies from rising again, I wanted to be sure.
