Ever since getting the definitive news about Bruce, Steph had found it difficult to stop crying. Something small would remind her of him, something seemingly insignificant, and she’d find herself tearing up all over again.Â
In all of the confusion and subsequent fallout, there hadn’t been any opportunity for her to reach out to Chuck until now. She’d agreed to meet for breakfast, a meal Steph was definitely not inclined to turn down, and showed up with her hair neatly braided to one side. She had a class to teach later. Finally she was getting back to a normal schedule, in spite of her vigilante life being (in a way, quite literally) up in the air.Â
But she wanted to see him. By now, she knew he had to have heard about what happened to Bruce. Everyone knew. Bruce wasn’t her adopted father, she wasn’t part of the family in the way that Tim was, but she was still Batgirl. She was still one of them. “Hey,” she said softly, smiling faintly a she sat across from him and let her bag drop on the floor. “Sorry I’m a little late.”
