Look. If you’ve been here since (almost) Day One, you know how we feel about Charlie Cox.

So you can imagine our intense joy when we got the chance to interview him in person and ask (almost) all the questions we had been dying to ask FOR SO LONG!

Let us just start by saying Charlie Cox is a cinnamon roll, and he was enthusiastic and generous and seemed to be having a lot of fun, which is something all hosts like to feel their guest is getting, and well, we were more than a little bit in love with him by the end of the interview. We’d love to put it all down to the unknowable alchemy of ‘black girl magic’ but we all know that just means hard work done in grand style… 👀

Anyway, a broad stroke outline of how we do it is RIGHT HERE.

Oh, Anon. Can we call you, ‘Nonny’?

Well, Nonny, it’s a long and arduous process, to be honest. At the beginning of every season we draw up a long (long!) list of every person we may have spent even five minutes thinking about. Then we slowly begin to chip away at that list. It will probably not surprise you when we say men are very good at being — and signposting their — trash, so this is a dispiriting, annoying and necessary part of the process.

There are other steps that we like to keep to ourselves… think Mother Nature in her special cloud, giving SuperTed his special powers, that kind of thing. 

The pertinent you need to know is that we always have the starting point of fancying the Thirst Object. That’s just TAK bedrock. The other thing is that we do our research. That’s right — we don’t just rock up to the studio and begin waxing lyrical. We watch and revisit, we read articles, we source old and recent interviews, we find clips and we EDIT. The 45 or so minutes we put out every week is a mere sliver of what we (and this includes our marvellous co-producers TK Dutes and Julia Furlan!) do, and what we choose to include is down to any number of variables specific to each episode.

The final result is something we hope you love, and we are grateful for every person who hits subscribe, every download, every listen, every email or tweet our lovely thirst-bucket listeners send us… all of it.

We are excited to announce our new podcast, because lord, do we all need it. Remember: lust is a feeling but thirst? Thirst is the performance of that feeling. And Thirst Aid Kit is about the public ways women express that desire.

The podcast is hosted by cultural critics Nichole Perkins (she’s on the left!) and Bim Adewunmi and is basically exploring why we desire who we desire, through conversation, original fanfic (!), and fantasies that take us by surprise...like a lion would a gazelle. Join us!
