Robin Hobb I’d give you my entire life for just one (1) book about young Chivalry, Patience and Burrich.
I’ve been picturing them at the jousts, maybe Chivalry did something stupid and both Patience and Burrich are scolding him while helping him remove his armor and they are both mildly annoyed because he looks good in it.
(sitting across from robin hobb) so. we’re meant to understand that burrich was a stablehand for lord oakdell when he was young, which is how he met patience. but in assassin’s quest he explains that he was raised in chalced, and when he was old enough to seek employment, he first served under a chalcedean chieftain, and then duke grizzle of shoaks, before being taken in as a crack troop for prince chivalry. in fool’s assassin you reference letters written to patience that burrich is going to “begin seeking military service” so he can win her hand, which confuses me because supposedly that is how he first arrived in the duchies. it also implies that he is able to write prior to military service, even though in assassin’s quest burrich says that chivalry was the one who taught him how to write. i’m also curious about why burrich’s chalcedean heritage and childhood was never examined by the narrative aside from the infamous gay freedom earring, which (chuckles) naturally loses its historical and symbolic significance throughout the story and in fandom conversations due to its pivotal role in multiple awesome bisexual pairings. but as we know, the duchyfolk harbor strong prejudices against chalcedeans, so burrich— (robin hobb pulls out her gun and fires three rounds into my abdomen, effectively putting me out of my misery)
