As a writer and a "Burnt Bread" fan, here is my take on the ship, why I ship it, and how I feel about the characters. I completely understand why some people don't ship them, whether it's due to the age difference or their personalities. However, there is something I need to point out: Aran is only a one-note character because Punch-Out!! left him a bit blank. Honestly, if you stick strictly to his canon self, you could argue that Aran would be a terrible boyfriend to everyone. But we have to remember that in fanfiction or fan art or head canons , nothing is set in stone. If you write or draw him as a one-note asshole, then that's all he will be. The same goes for Glass Joe—if you write or draw him as a scared wimp, he’s going to stay that way. But what if you write them as mature adults? You don't have to write Aran as a chaotic man-child, and you don't have to write Joe as someone who is terrified of his own shadow. It’s a simple canon fix: Aran can still be a chaotic gremlin, but one who is mature and respectful enough to be in a healthy relationship. Joe can act like an actual 38-year-old who chooses to love Aran despite his flaws, and who isn't afraid to knock Aran down a peg when he needs it. People sometimes ask, "Why is Joe shipped with Aran?" But honestly, why is Joe shipped with Von Kaiser, Great Tiger, or Hondo? Why is Hondo shipped with Sandy , Great Tiger or Don Flamenco? Why is Aran shipped with Don or Disco Kid? Logically, none of these characters have ever officially "met" in a meaningful narrative way, and canonically, Aran is just a jerk to everyone Yet, fanfiction writers and artists manage to make Aran a loving older brother, or put him in love with the sweetest characters in Punch-Out!!. If we can do that, Aran can absolutely be written or drawn as a respectful adult who deserves Joe's love. At the end of the day, I don't need a deeply logical canon reason to ship it nobody and repeat NOBODY needs a justification on who they ship in punch out I can simply write it and make it work. Personally I don't care for Glass canon or Rose Clover ( I made Aran and Don siblings)
