Year eight is complete.
It has been hard for some time not to fall back on bad habits. I still get the urges relatively often. But I am glad to say that I still have managed to refrain.
Even if it temporarily numbs the senses, it only brings more pain after it has abated.

Long time, no see! It's been a rough few months, so I've not had the heart to paint until recently. Plus I discovered that I needed glasses again so that's been an adjustment. You ever been away from an activity for so long, you feel like you're no longer good at it? Build a Ladder
I had a really bad night last night because of my chronic illness. I woke up two hours after I fell asleep with intense pain. I like to watch Simon and Martina on youtube and Martina has a strategy for dealing with chronic illness/pain: build a ladder. When you are in pain, you can work on small tasks which add rungs to your ladder. Last night I put three rungs on my ladder: I took medicine, I ate a snack, and I fell back asleep. I’m stil in pain but I am going to work on my next two rungs: get out of bed and eat breakfast.
When you suffer from chronic illness/pain, it’s easy to fall into despair when you can’t accomplish all the tasks you want to do. Instead of focusing on what I can’t do, I am choosing to focus on what I can do and I am proud of my ladder. It’s very easy to compare yourself to others and feel upset when you can’t do “normal” everyday tasks. But my body is unique, so I’m not going to hold it to someone else’s standard.

Day 2 of my #8daysofgreat is all about these wacky fluffernutters. No matter how rough my day is or how awful I feel they're always there to help me #buildaladder with snuggles and purrs, reminding me not to let my tea get cold or to stop scratching under their chin. #Clea has been my stalwart friend and companion for all of my adult life (almost 20 years) thru broken hearts, across the country, thru numerous jobs, apartments, boyfriends and the loss of her sister #Roxy. #Mochi and #Ollie are newer additions to our family, joining us almost 2 years ago and adding new life, snuggles, and hijinks to our home. Went hiking for the first time and let's say it something I want to try again.
I had an awesome time with my best friend and met some amazing new people along the way.
I pushed my body beyond its limit but the pain was well woth it.
