I was listening to Yungblud and then started thinking about Doncaster and Louis, specially common people and I have talked about this with my friends before and I’m sure other people has too and oh god that song is extremely sad… like sure common people talks about growing up in a supportive community and the good memories created there but then you get to the chorus and you realise that all of that is conditional to fitting the mold

and knowing what Yungblud and Tan France have said about the difficulties of growing up queer in a “traditional” small town… I’m just sad for them, specially for Louis because i do think that the song is about the experience of growing up in Doncaster when you’re not exactly a typical straight teenager but the song it’s also about the community that welcomed him when he left his home telling him that he could have all the money and all the fame if he just acted in a certain way and didn’t show the people who he really was.

I think you’re right. It’s a very layered song. There’s a fine line between staying down to earth and not being allowed to grow.
I remember, too, that Louis had this song Ordinary People on one of his old playlists. I think it was an inspiration for Common People.
