HERE'S A CAT TO CELEBRATE
Lunner
Pairing: Bucky x Enhanced!Reader
Word Count: 1246
Warnings: Fluffyyyy, mentions/depictions of domestic abuse (not from Bucky), Reader gets hurt, protective Bucky
A/N: Yeah, yeah, you know the thing. ErmâI usually donât really write enhanced reader, but the thought of knocking Bucky on his ass with ice is fun, so here we go. Please donât copy my work onto this platform or other platforms.
Re-blogs, comments/critiques, and notes are GREATLY appreciated. thanks for all the support on my last fic too <3
Summary: Reader can conjure up ice, and is constantly using her talents to annoy Bucky.
âWhat was that for?!â
âYou woke me up so early.â you complained, still giggly at the fact that youâd made Bucky fall flat on his ass.
âJust because you have these powers now, doesnât mean that you should abuse me with them.â
Your heart tugged at the word abuse. No one knew your secret, not even Bucky.
You never thought that Alex would lay hands on you, but the more often it happened, the more often you made excuses for his behaviour. You couldnât see the trap heâd lay you into so gently that it was hard for anyone to take notice. Thinking about abusing Bucky made you want to jump out of a window. It made you want to hide your icy cold hands away from the world or shove them into a fireplace.
âHey, I was just kidding. Itâs fine. You didnât actually hurt me.â Bucky said, misunderstanding your moment of silence, but who could blame him?
âMm.â
You and Bucky had grown close, something that Bucky wasnât used to. He wasnât sure that he even knew how to do it. He always found himself being overly possessive, slightly clingy, and extremely protective. You didnât seem to mind.
âAre you hungry? Do you want lunch?â
âNo. I-I actually have a date.â
Liar. You mentally scolded yourself. Today was too important to blow it off on lunch with Bucky. Today, you would finally tell Alex that you two were done.
All the while, Bucky wallowed in self pity at his singleness. Specifically, his singleness in regards to you.
Bucky hated Alex, plain and simple. Everyone else claimed that Alex was a ânice guyâ when you invited him to meet Captain America, but Buckyâs always hated him. It started with the fact that you didnât hold the door open for you. Then he spoke over you every time you tried to talk. And he finished the night by asking you to get him a beer, despite your deadly fear of drinking and driving, unless it was one of the enhanced, who couldnât get drunk.
You didnât miss the look of disgust that Bucky blew your way, but you brushed it off of your shoulder as if it was nothing.
âErmâIâll be back soon, though. Maybe we can have... âlunner?â Together?â
ââLunner?ââ
âYeah, Bucko.â he hated when you called him that.
âI hate it when you call me that.â and you knew.
âI know.â
6 hours. You missed âlunnerâ, and Bucky was mad. You promised. This was the first time you ever broke a promise, and Bucky didnât like the fact that it was over Alex one bit.
âBuckyââ
âWhere have you been?! Iâve been waiting for you! Iâm starving! Come on!â
He was starving? Heâs been waiting? You couldnât take it anymore. You simply wanted everythingâeven Buckyâto go away.
Bucky regretted everything.
Spiked shards of ice extended 10 feet away from you, attached to a central bead of ice, which kept you to your own.
âHey... whatâs wrong?â
But when Bucky tried to approach, the spikes got longer and longer, until he was more than 15 feet away from you.
âY/N, please... talk to me.â he begged, setting down his phone on the table.
Talk. What was there to talk about? Were you supposed to talk about your bruised cheek? Were you supposed to talk about your broken heart?
âDonât shut me out, Y/N. Iâm sorry. Iâm not mad at you.â
Sorry. Sorry was something you hadnât heard for a long time. Maybe that was why the spikes retracted by 5 feet. Maybe that was why your tears started shedding. Maybe that was why you wanted to be held by him. The more you thought about it, the more your spikes retracted, not that you did anything to stop them.
âB-Buckyââ
Heâd already taken you in. By the time the ice was gone, you were warm, and in his arms. God, did you hate the feeling of cold before him. Ironic, isnât it?
âWhatâs wrong, Doll?â he asked, stroking your hair with his calloused palm. His metal hand contrasted that one, tugging from your waist.
When you didnât reply, he lifted your chin to meet his eyes, but what he found was devastating.
It didnât take him long to register what had happenedâor at least portions of it. And he was ready to kill. All he saw was red, the colour of hate.
Just as Bucky was about the stomp to the door, you tucked yourself into his torso, tight enough the you almost knocked him over by squeezing around his stomach.
âHe hit you.â Bucky seethed.
Still, his hands remained gentle as ever, rubbing circles on your back as you sobbed out all of your emotions.
âI wanted to tell you before, but I couldnât, Bucky.â
âBefore?â Bucky asked in disbelief. âHow long has it been going on?!â
â... A year, maybe.â
Bucky physically tensed. Of course, he was still madâfuriousâat Alexander, but he was even more upset with himself. With all his time spent with you, he hadnât noticed anything off? Bucky felt like a punch to the gut had just been delivered, but it was only you, crying your eyes out.
Bucky would do anything for the woman he loved so much.
âIâll kill him.â
Bucky ripped you arms off of his side, shoving his way to the door, but not even getting a footstep away from you.
âBucky, wait!â you yelled, icing the floor beneath him, until he was sliding in your direction. âWe-we broke up. I-Iâm okay now.â
Never in his life had Bucky been so relieved. He didnât know whether to jump for or call the police department. He was still determined to find Alex, but maybe now wasnât the time.
âIâm sorry.â he repeated his words from earlier, giving them a different meaning. He sat on the floor, ice not allowing him to move any closer to the door.
You nodded quietly and tucked yourself back into his arms of protection. God, he was such a barrier from the world. He smelled of mint and cedar wood, something like a car freshener and expensive cologne. All you wanted to do was stay huddled in these arms forever.
âDid you get anything to eat?â
You had to stop yourself from giggling at the irony, so you shook your head against his clothed abs, frizzing up your hair.
âItâs good.â
âYouâre lying.â
âWell, you spent an hour trying to make those cookies, the least I can do was be nice about them.â Bucky tried to crumb off the burnt bottom of his chocolate chip and almond cookie.
âHmph. I suck.â
âYou donât suck.â he started.
As he walked toward you, you created another ice patch under his feet, having little knowledge of the direction heâd fall in.
He ended up on top of you. His strong arms kept himself in a plank so he wouldnât crush you with his weight, and all you could do was laugh.
âNow, what was that one for?â
âFor lying to me.â
âI didnât lie. Youâre the least sucky woman Iâve ever met.â
You smiled at the childish words, remembering the first time you met Bucky.
âHello.â
âThis sucks.â
âOh...â you tried not to sound too disappointed.
âOh, no, no, no, no, no! Not you! This stupid internet thing! What the hell is a âVine?ââ
âAnd the smartest, most beautiful, most deserving, most admirable person I know.â He praised looking deeply into your soul through your pupils.
The wind had been knocked out of you, and without your knowledge, you stopped breathing a long time ago.
Just as you were about to tell Bucky all the reasons you loved him, and reject his statements, strong, warm, slightly chapped lips met yourâs for a gentle kiss.
âNow you know why I missed you for âlunner.ââ
Ghost Hunting
song of the chapter: Untitled 02- Kendrick Lamar
The jet black sports car is stagnant in traffic. A restless groan emits from the coffee-filled maniac in the backseat. Her cramped knees rattle against the back of Steveâs chair. Pulling irritable remarks from the pair up-front.
Steve Rogers, usually classified a patient man. Is grating his teeth as Imari sends another kick. Jostling him in his seat yet again. Natasha throws an empty threat about scratching her leather over her shoulder. To find Imari in her own world. Eyes shut ; flooding out their conversation with the voice of Kendrick Lamar booming through her beats.
The assassin is overly caffeinated, she canât still herself. Beneath clenched eyelids, CCTV images of a blurry face and metallic gleam flash. Her palms itch with excitement at her plans for the winter soldier.
Steve, in alliance with a reformed Natasha Romanoff, have plans to capture the winter soldier in high hopes for a lead.
Imari is ready for the kill.
Too wired up to overthink Natashaâs eventual disapproval. Just kill, kill. Kill the winter soldier. The raspy voice in her head muses. He is hydras little puppet and Imari finds herself ecstatic to snip at the strings.

It had been a rough year for Y/N Y/L/N, and her hopes were low as she scrolled through what seemed to be hundreds of job recruitment websites. She had only finished her business practicum a month ago and had yet to find a job which she deemed acceptable for a young twenty-something-year-old woman with a masters in business. Thankfully her very rich and very lovely best friend, Claudia, allowed her to stay in her brownstone apartment until she was able to afford her own rent or move out or do whatever real adults did when they were expected to do things by themselves.Â
The glasses which Y/N had perched on her nose had long since stopped working, her now tired eyes drying and watering at the same time, and making her vision fuzzy around the edges. They were too-wet and too-dry at the same time, strained from staring at her laptop screen and working tirelessly for the better part of her day. To Y/N, submitting resumes and scheduling interviews was honestly her least favorite thing in the whole wide world-- even more than wet socks, or cold hands.
âAnything?â Claudia said, entering her bedroom and handing Y/N a mug of tea before perching herself at the end of the bed.Â
âClaudia. I need you to shoot me. Just take out me outside and shoot me like a lame horse or something.â Y/N whined, continuing to scroll. Nothing good was coming up, and she knew she couldnât be picky for her first Adult job, but damnâ she really didnât want to work at Whole Foods for the rest of her life.
âIâm not shooting you, youâre being really dramatic and itâs unnecessary. Scoot over and give me the laptop.â Claudia crawled over and scooted herself under the heavy quilts, and took the laptop going on a few job-recruiting sites which she had heard of while listening to a podcast earlier that day.Â
Y/N pulled the blanket up around her ears then, trying to close her eyes for a second and rid herself of an ebbing headache she could feel pressing against the top of her skull. It was only a few minutes later when Claudia gasped and sat up fully, waking Y/N up from the odd place in between sleep and wake.Â
âWhat the fuck.â Y/N grumbled, nosing herself deeper into the thick pillows.Â
âPepper Potts needs an assistant. She wants someone young and with a masters in business. Y/N. You have a masters in business.â Claudia rushed, clicking on the job posting and slapping Y/Nâs shoulder.Â
âIâm not going to get itâ itâs a public job posting for Tony Starks fiancee. There are probably thousands of applicants.â Y/N groaned, sitting up once more and snuggling into her best friends side.Â
âI wouldnât hurt to apply. Y/N this could be huge. If youâre Pepper Potts assistant, you could do anything after that. Jesus, Iâm sure you could even retire!â Claudia handed the computer over to her best friend and watched as Y/N opened her resume folder and dragged it over to the new e-mail box. Within a few clicks, her laptop sent off a whooshing sound and the e-mail square clicked away.Â
âThere. Oh, God now my hopes are up.â Y/N breathed, deciding thirty resumes were enough for today and shutting her laptop, throwing it to the end of the bed as if it had suddenly become hot.Â
âGood. You deserve high hopes after everything thatâs happened to you this year.â Claudia whispered, wrapping her arms around Y/Nâs shoulders and handing her her tea.Â
âThank you, Claud. For everything.â
âAnything for you, Bear.â

Bucky Barnes attention was pulled from his mission briefing when one Sam Wilson jutted Buckyâs phone into his face. It took a second for his eyes to focus, but he wasnât expecting for his own smiling face to be staring back at him.Â
The screen in front of him had a picture of Bucky Barnes smiling with his arm wrapped around Steveâs support dog, followed by his first name and his age (which said 31, but was not, in fact, correct). He furrowed his brows only slightly and read the tiny blurb he assumed would be about him.Â
âNot as cool as my name may suggest? What the hell is this?â He looked up at the offending person who was towering over him, who only smiled and plopped down on the table in front of Bucky.Â
âYouâre lonely, Buck. You need someone other than paperwork and your hand.â Sam said as if the answer was obvious. Bucky, instead of responding, rolled his eyes and threw the phone on the other side of the couch and turned his attention back tot he briefings in front of him. Instead of having the chance to read them, however, Sam snatched them away, piled them neatly into the brown folder and placed it on the table next to him.Â
âSeriously, man. As much as you drive me insane, Iâm worried about you. I and Donald have hit it off well, Capâs with Nat and we donât want to leave you behind.â Sam ushered, his voice the same that he used for his patients at the VA.Â
âIâm fine, Sam. Youâre not leaving me behindâ Iâm choosing to do whatâs expected of me.â Bucky whined, tired already of this conversation. Sure, it would be nice to be pressed to the back of some pretty dame late at night, but he had no time for that. Steve was hanging up the Captain mantel soon, and he needed to be ready for the question he knew was coming his way. He had no time for play when he had so much work to do.Â
âNo. Whatâs expected of you is for you to be happy. Your therapist, among other people, have told you time and time again that youâre ready for a relationship. I know youâre scared, Bucky. I know girls arenât the same as they used to be. I know itâs hard to find someone with shared life experience but you have to at least try.â Sam frowned, leaning back when Bucky shot up from his place on the desk. Bucky felt vulnerable suddenlyâ maybe even a bit offended at Samâs words, but mostly vulnerable. He knew there was no way to hide things from Samâ hell, his job was to read soldiers and help them with their issues, but for Sam to attack him with no given intention before was a slap to Buckyâs face.Â
âIâm not scared, Sam. Iâve had enough scared for three lifetimes. Iâm focussedâ thereâs a difference.â Bucky snarled, walking through the living room and snatching the files from their place on the pristine coffee table and leaving the room in a flurry of embarrassment and anger.Â
Sam only sighed, watching his best friend storm from the common room.Â

âYes, oh my gosh thank you. Iâll be there at nine. Yes, thank you for considering me for the position, Maâam. Alright, see you then. Bye.â Y/N gasped in disbelief, hanging up her phone and leaning with her back against the balcony railing. She stared at the end call screen reflected in her phone for only a few seconds before taking a breath, pocketing her phone, and walking through the penthouse to Claudiaâs room.Â
The pink room came quicker than she expected, and she stared at her purple-haired friend in an empty shock for a while before she broke frothier spell at the ushering of her friend to do so.Â
âY/N whatâs wrongâ it looks like you saw something horrifying. Oh Jesus, was it that old lady streaking again? I swear I really should talk to Luke about thatââ
âI got the interview.â Y/N said breathlessly. Claudia sent her an excited smile and perked up from her place among the nest of pillows and blankets around her.Â
âWell, damn, Girl! Congrats! Movie night and wine to celebrate?â She smiled, reaching for her phone to postulate some expensive wine and take out.Â
âNo, Claud. I got the interview.â Y/N responded, phone now clutched in her hands. Claudiaâs smile fell from her face and the dimple between her eyebrows deepened as she tried to figure out what she was saying. Then, as if a wave crashed over her, Claudia froze and blinked quickly.Â
âWaitââ
âItâs at nine tomorrow morning.â Y/N rushed, dizzy with elation.Â
âWait! With Pepper Potts?! That interview?!â Claudia threw the blankets off of her and kneeled on the side of the bed, waiting for the response she knew would come from her best friends lips.Â
âI have an interview with the director of Stark Industries at nine.â Y/N repeated. She thought that if she repeated the phrase out loud in different ways, it would sink in and she could feel her feet once more. She was swept up, however, by the mass that was her best friend, spinning her and jumping her around. The girls screamed and spoke in rushed tones for the rest of the night, expensive wine and takeout strewn about the room and almost forgotten. Finally, Y/N Y/L/N had not only caught a break, but the break.Â
