HI JEAN! sorry this took a while but, here goes!

🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction? 

so it was like 2004 and a friend... who I role played Lord of the Rings OCs with… on Neopets… sent me some ff.net fics (can anyone guess which ones?) and I started clicking around and really wanted to try my hand at it. I’d read fic before via webrings but never thought it was something I could easily do? Anyway within the week I was writing Inuyasha fanfic.

so..... i don’t really use playlists…… i shuffle artists or albums 😂 the last playlist i remember using was the eras tour setlist so that i could be #prepared to keep up with my beautiful swiftie wife

i desperately need to wend my way back thru this fandom to figure out what my touchstone fics are, so in lieu of that endeavor: i’m gonna reach deep into the archive and tap on one of my favorite fics of all time: “On the Line, or Five Times Roy Mustang Drunk Dialed Riza Hawkeye” by the inimitable @glamaphonic, because Rawles is just that good and also lit up my brain like christmas lights when I first read it, and it still holds up super well today.

i don't think i've talked about this on tumblr main before so: as a kid, i lived with my aunt and uncle for about 3 years while my mom went back to school and tl;dr she had to threaten kidnapping charges to get them to give me back after she graduated, which caused a huge multi-generational family fight followed by years of estrangement and then I had to be the one to restore contact when I wanted like. anyone there for my high school graduation. so anyway. I umm definitely in no way find certain fictional characters particularly relatable because of this. 😂

This is certainly an exaggeration, and Eddie knows it, judging by the dubious way he glances down at the table itself, but Buck forges ahead heroically. “Come on. There are even candles. So, whatever it is, it can’t be that bad.”

25. What fic do you wish you got more of a response on?

Oh right now, definitely family recipe, because I’ve put so much into it and am so proud of it. The concept started out very silly, with the idea of Pepa kicking off her match-matching again — except focusing on Buck this time instead of Eddie. Hilariously, this occurred to me bc of a personal experience, where I got a random text one day in my 20s from my aunt letting me know her MIL (who very much was a bonus grandma to me) wanted to set me up, and then I stared at my phone for the better part of a day wondering if THIS was how i came out to my family??? Anyway I gracefully declined, but that experience is kind of the backbone to this unexpected character study it evolved into (compared to the initial concept which was more 5x-structured and comedic) where I’m really digging into how Eddie conceives of family and what kind of family he’s actually built while quietly simmering in mounting jealousy. Anyway, I’m hoping it gets a little more love once I post the final chapter (and also prove it deserves its E rating) but… we’ll see.

58. What part of the writing process do you enjoy the most? (Brainstorming, outlining, writing, editing, etc) 

Brainstorming is definitely the most pure fun, I think, because really it’s just sheer imagination and spitballing and throwing things at the wall irrespective of the logistics. Even better when it’s something born out of an unhinged DM or discord conversation with a friend, as so many of my fic ideas often are. Once I transition to true outlining, I get a lot more grounded in “okay what are the emotional beats? how does it flow? what would actually have to happen for this to make sense and be in character?” which I also enjoy, but it shifts from unbuttoned glee to more a labor of love at that point.

65. Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project

DICK PIC FIC. honestly after the intensely character-driven elements of family recipe and the emotional heaviness of my will plot advent fic, i’m sooo ready to throw myself into a lower-stakes romp where the point is just unapologetic horniess! don’t get me wrong, i’m incapable of not working an emotional arc into everything, so there will be feelings AND thirsting AND fucking, but yeah, I’m absolutely looking forward to finishing my two other projects so I can switch it up in January.
