Where we at?
Thought I’d post a quick race-training update tonight.
So, where are we?  Let’s start with a quick reminder of the Hal Higdon Half Marathon training program, which I used to train for my first HM several years ago.
Today, I am currently midway through Week 5.  I did one of the short runs last weekend, and yesterday I did my long training run of the week - a 5.88 miler (I am supposed to do 6, but I consider this one checked off b/c I did a long cool-down walk after shutting off my tracker app).  I’ve cross trained once, and I’ve gone to two yoga classes, one of which was somewhat physically challenging with lots of strength work, vinyasas, etc.  So I think I’m hanging in there with the schedule.
Here’s a map of my long run, completed yesterday:
My average pace was 11:07, but I ran miles 3-6 at a sub-11 minute mile pace.  I tend to start out very slow, with a 12+ minute pace on my first mile - so that tends to bring down the average.  I wonder if this will change over time with some spadework - I don’t really care if it doesn’t, but just curious.
I did the long run in the early morning, leaving the house at 5:45 am when it was still very dark outside.  My favorite route of late is this one that has a long stretch of running along the service road of an expressway.  I like it because its flat, no turns, and no traffic lights or intersections to worry about.  It also has a generously spaced bike lane, which is where I run - so it feels safe.  But, I do worry that there are fast-moving cars along this road.  So I’ve invested in some new safety gear....
Now you KNOWWW you’re jelly of my fashionable look.  Mm hmm.
So that’s the update for now.  Gotta keep moving!
