Documentum _ I found the Manchester Museum’s archaeological collection inspirational. I loved how the curators read different ancient texts, telling us formal and personal messages from the time. This reminded me how important writing is and gave me the impression a message I record may be read by someone in 2000 years' time. I gathered together as many writing implements and materials as I could and set them up in the studio as a still life. Carbon Footprint _ After a fantastic behind the scenes look at the Manchester Museums collections. I came away with several ideas. Narrowing them down I went with an idea inspired by the museum being a Green Museum and the topic of environmental sustainability. Carbon Footprint is a term describing the amount of carbon released into the air by humans (not by nature) and the Earth is dying because of it. From big things like planes and cars to little things like your clothes and even your toothbrush, everything carries a carbon footprint. Most of the general public do not really know what it is and few calculate their very own carbon footprint, so I have created this image to educate those who see it. I found a large box with the same dimensions as the 5x4 large format film camera I will be using (I'm the only student tackling this format). I purchased some soil, borrowed a small animal skull from the college, collected some twigs from outside and used some plastic flowers from home. The soil filled the box and the flowers covered one side looking fresh whilst with the skull and twigs covering the other side looking dead. Then I stamped my bare foot in the middle causing a noticeable footprint. The image was taken in the studio with the camera directly above and a flash causing shadows to make the footprint more noticeable and this image represents how our (humankind’s) careless damage to the environment is killing nature and the earth itself. #CarbonFootprint #ManchesterMuseum #BtecPhotography #ClarendonSixthForm #TamesideCollege #blackandwhite #filmphotography #environmental (at Clarendon Sixth Form)
