Fort Meigs diorama in Blockhouse Seven, my beloved. It's so huge and detailed and elaborate, I could stare at it for hours.
The last image with the men in red-trimmed blue hunting frocks shows what I believe are Virginia militia, but not the Petersburg Volunteers who had white crossbelts. Both wore that style of slouch hat.

Such a town is inhabited of course by plain people, who are apt to look up to students, and on whom students are apt to look down. As soon as such people become dependent on students for a part of their subsistence, they begin, of course, to accord with their wishes, and soon after, to countenance and aid their vicious pursuits. The Students then corrupt the inhabitants, and the inhabitants corrupt the Students. … If I am not deceived, the College at Princeton has suffered severely from this source.

Especially when it might feel like you don't quite fit into the beauty standards of today. My favorite time to fantasize about is the Regency Era, mainly because I'm a sucker for romance but also because I love to imagine myself in all those fancy ball gowns. But was Beauty really so different back then? That's exactly what we're going to find out.
An interesting article about a popular food in the young United States of Afro-Carribean origin:
Dina escaped from slavery and sold pepper pot stew on the streets of Philadelphia, while her enslaver tried to recapture her.
I also love the art of John Lewis Krimmel, who painted a lively 4th of July scene from 1819, set in Philadelphia.
