“He come back,” Magnus assured Ace.  Why would he carry Chairman when the cat could just reappear once his feet were firmly on the ground?  Besides, he was happy right now so he didn’t need the comfort his cat provided. Â
Some people had security blankets, Magnus conjured magic cats.
Jumping off the branch, Magnus followed his friends through the grass.  It was beautiful, different from the land where he grew up but Magnus thought that was okay.  He’d like Ragnor’s gardens too and this was like that.  Running his hands over the plants, Magnus smiled at the softness of the petals, the rough bark. Â
Through the arch, he saw something that looked more like what he was used to and he beamed.  “Pretty!  We play?”  He hurried in, losing himself in the grass for a moment before turning back to his friends. Â
“Play now?” he prompted, nodding towards the tree.  Realizing Chairman wasn’t there, he murmured in Indonesian and the cat reappeared on his shoulder.  Pointing where the swing was, he grinned, “Look!  Tree, Chairman!”

“ Play! Let’s play!” Ace yelled as he ran through the garden, taking high steps to move through the taller grass. The walled in garden was his favorite place to play, and now he had two new friends to play there with! And sure enough, Chairman came back, which only made Ace even happier. “ Chairman here, we play! Magnus, go swing, hold on I give push, you fly!” For Ace, knowing he had two new friends (before, Sophia had been his only friend) and he got to show them his favorite places to play, this made it a Very Good Day for the young boy.Â
As Sophia followed the boys more slowly, stopping to say hello to the trees and plants, something was becoming very apparent to her, which made her sad. Ace and Magnus were going to be better friends than she and Magnus ever would be. They would be friends - good friends, even- but Ace would always be more important to Magnus than her. And she had a feeling it would be this way when they were Adults, too.Â
Mai told her than when she Knew Things, she had to work very hard to separate her Feelings from what she Knew. After all, Things Happen as they are supposed to. Just because she was Special and able to Know, it didn’t give her the right to meddle and make it personal. But even with all that, it was still Okay to feel sad and unhappy sometimes - she was just a warlock after all, and warlocks had Feelings. But she had to control what happened when she had Feelings because her magic sometimes Went Not Good when she had sad or angry Feelings.Â
So she did that now, going to her main sources of comfort: the trees and the plants. She asked the roses for flowers to decorate her side of the room, and they gave her very beautiful blossoms. After that, the wildflowers let her pluck them to make a crown for herself, so she might be Queen of the Gardens. She even spied the Pesky Rabbit, that Cookie didn’t like as it ate up the vegetables from her kitchen gardens.Â
So in all, it was still a Good Day. And those were the best kind.Â
