The Broken Figure Blues! (Broken Storm Collectibles Hot Ryu Black Pants Version)
I’ve wanted, I’ve waited, and I’ve watched the reviews, but nothing has let me down as a collector as much as this shoddy toy.
Storm Collectibles is relatively new, but have been coming out with some awesome looking figures. Their price tags are high though, so I waited. I planned to get Goro, M. Bison, Shao Kahn, and Reptile, but... not anymore. I took the plunge and bought this NYCC17 exclusive Hot Ryu black pants version on a whim to see what the quality was like...and damn was I disappointed. Every reviewer I’ve watched ranted and raved about how great Storm Collectibles were quality-wise. So I felt assured... but this figure turned out to be the biggest dud and mistake I’ve ever purchased.
First, the right Leg kept popping off from the ball socket at the hip. Something seems to have been molded wrong because the left leg stays. I literally can’t pose or play around with the leg without it coming off. So, yay, I guess I bought a statue....
Second, the right knee snapped off from the very thin tab they use as a connecting male part. Oh well, guess I’ll epoxy that.
Third, the left Arm broke. The peg for the bicep swivel was apparently joined to the bicep, so when I went to turn it...snaaaaaaap! Now, that’s bad QC. The right arm is fine. But damn, the only other figure that I’ve run into with this type of problem was NECA’s Clan Leader Predator. Maybe I can try to fix it with a screw or metal wire, but I’m not too positive about it.
If a company is going to charge a premium price, they need to get their shit together. I don’t want to spend hours trying to fix a bunch of problems with a figure that costs a lot. So, while other people may have great experiences with Storm Collectibles, I got a fucking dud. Perhaps it’s just this version of Ryu, but as much as I wanted to purchase their other figures, I just can’t now. Customer lost.
