Comic link dump + resources + recommendations 

This is for tumblr user broconuthead and contains less a masterpost and more an eclectic collection of things i have read and enjoyed and/or plan to read, the purpose of which is to (hopefully) convince more people I know to start reading comics. Some of these are links to direct downloads and some are links to masterposts. This is an extremely small collection, because it takes a lot of time and effort to cobble these things together-if there’s a specific volume or trade you’re looking for, you can almost always find a torrent on ka if you look hard enough.

There are two things you need to read comics:

1) A comic reader           

2) Comics in the form of .cbr or .cbz files, found in various places. I’ve collected some here.

NOTE: These are most of the comics I have read or plan to read, but some of them are particular favorites of mine. I’ve marked them with a little ★.

Interesting fact about the Myers-Brigg Test. I've done it several times and gotten different results. The last time I did one of the tests my friend recommended I got this:

Anatomy tips, ah?… You’re not the first who asks me something like this… I’ll try to do a little summary to help! (even if I’m not that perfection in anatomy, gah :°D)

1. Know your body!

There is no shortcut for this: study anatomy. Know how muscles work, what makes you move your wrist/hand/leg/neck/nose/finger/ecc.. . Human anatomy is complex as hell, but when you understand how it works, it a waaay lot easier to draw it later! You don’t have to know anatomy like a medic, but study on a medical book (or something similar that you can find on internet) helps a lot! In my accademy we did two years of anatomy, studing every muscle name, position, and action. And we drew all of them, like if we had to illustrate an anatomical book. Of course I forgot like the 80% of names, but I still remember where they are, and what they do! At least the biggests and more importants!

Study them, draw them, so you can remember the most important things when you have to draw them in action! :D

2. Proportions!

For artistic purposes, proportions are even more important than a correct muscle. For ages artists studied about canonical proportions of the human body (someone said Leonardo?), and they found out a lot of tips to draw easly a good human body. I don’t know all of them, but I can do a map of the most importants:

Take the head height as a unit. The human body is tall 7/8 units (7.5 is a normal taller man,like 170 cm). From the top, after “2 units”, you have nipples (in a woman, it depends of the breast size, of course). At point “3”, there is the navel. At point “4”, the groin, AND the wrist, if the arm is down. At “5.5” you got the knees. The elbow is more or less at the same point of the navel, and more or less where the rib cage ends. The forearm is long as an unit, like distance armpit/elbow. And the body frontal width is like 2 units, and you can draw 3 heads inside. A foot normally is long as a unit.

Ears are pretty important on the face form….

Of course, these are canonical proportion,for a nice and “perfectly normal” body. You can play with them, to characterize better a character!

For a correct use, you should try all of them, find for new or different ones, and do a lot of these body maps. I did tons of them, at school, and sometime I feel the need to draw them again, as a reminder. :D

There are so many things to say about how to draw a nice body… like, how to make it act in a story (a walking character is more hard to draw than you think…), or remember how physics works… and the way perspective makes you see the body, and how clothes fold…. believe me, it’s stuff that you learn in years, and a post like this is not enough to do a serious lessons. And I’m not a good teacher, I still do a lot of mistakes, too many. :°D

I can give the same advice that my teachers told to me some years ago: Draw. Draw. Draw. Draw a lot of bodies, muscles, bones, arms, hands, faces, HANDS, bodies again, in front/behind/profile and 3/4 views, and A LOT OF HANDS. Look for pictures, look at your friends, look at yourself. It’s like a sport, you can’t miss workouts if you want to do a good match!

16. Favorite movie- Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog! I watch it almost every day. It’s a problem.

17. A fact about my life- When we go out to eat, my younger brother and I switch our orders— usually I can only eat mac and cheese off the kids’ menu, and he has enough of an appetite for the regular dishes. It works well.
