ââ Please stay with me tonight. I donât want to be alone. ââ for my two babies gen and brett??
The bedroom Satomi had set up for Genevieve was significantly larger than any room the small wolf had ever slept in. It was almost too big, too much empty space and too much room for her wild thoughts. Genevieve was almost certain the spare room had been given to her out of pity, like most things sheâd been given in her life.Â
But this bedroom was too big. Especially tonight. Genevieve huddled up against the headboard of the new and unfamiliar bed, knees drawn tightly to her chest as she let out a heavy sigh, the anxiety of the last few days still refusing to leave her body.Â
âHey, you okay?âÂ
Genevieve jumped slightly at the sound of Brettâs voice, her eyes widening more than usual as she turned to look up at the tall boy. He was leaning against the doorframe, eyes crinkled slightly in concern as he gazed at her.Â
âYeah, Iâm fine,â Genevieve said but even she barely believed the words falling from her lips. âJust tired.âÂ
Brett nodded slowly, his eyes still a little disbelieving as he watched her. âWell the rest of the pack is heading off now so I guess Iâm leaving now too.â
Genevieve nodded silently, her eyes dropping back to the edge of the bed as she hugged her knees a little tighter. She could hear Brettâs heartbeat, quick with nerves. At least she wasnât the only one feeling nervous and out of place now.Â
As Brett went to leave, Genevieve felt her own heartbeat stutter, the sight of him leaving again causing her to flashback to their last argument. âWait, Brett-â she cut off, watching as Brett froze, his back to her. âIâŚ.I just..Please stay with me tonight. I donât want to be alone,â Genevieve continued finally, inwardly cringing at the uncertainty in her tone.
âGennyâŚâ Brett turned to face her, an unreadable expression in his eyes now. âI donât know if thatâs a good ideaâŚNot after everything we said.â
âPlease, just for tonight. I know what I saidâŚâ Genevieve trailed off, blinking away the tears threatening to spill over her cheeks. âBut right now I really donât want to be alone.âÂ
Brett studied her for a moment, lips pursed as the two wolves locked eyes. Finally he let out a slow exhale, nodding as he moved towards her, climbing onto the bed beside her. âJust for tonight,â he said, pulling her into his arms just like he used to, his warmth automatically calming the bubble of nerves running through Genevieveâs veins. âJust for tonight,â Brett repeated, but Genevieve wasnât sure who he was convincing now. She didnât mind though. As long as she could have one more night of ignorance, one last night before reality could sink its claws back in.Â
