Reina’s face goes bright read, and angry beeping from her regulators screeches out. “O-oh…. hello… Tiny cute thing…” She wrings her hands together, unsure of what do with them, and not really sure how to react to you being their either.

Brendyn swells up a few feet. “Holy crap, you are so cuuuute! Are you okay up there? Like the view?” He puts a hand up just to make sure you don’t fall off, but is enjoying your being there all the same.

“I assume this question is only for the shifters, yes? Because I don’t think too many of the rest of us are getting any bigger.” Kait crosses her arms, looking a bit miffed. 

Everyone looks at Reina, expecting her to speak first. She blushes a bit before answering. “Well, the scientists aren’t really sure, but the biggest I’ve ever been they estimated at about 92 kilometers. I had to get that big to divert an asteroid, and… well I didn’t really like it, and I passed out afterwards. There was…. a lot of damage… As long as I don’t run out of oxygen, and my body can withstand the stress, theoretically…. I guess I have no limit.”

“I believe I am much the same,” Emilie responds. “Though my limits have not been fully tested, as long as there is a source of energy to absorb, my body will compensate. I have never been so big as you, Reina, but 12 kilometers was I think where I was estimated when I intercepted a 10-megaton bomb. That was the last time anyone dropped a bomb on my country.”

Flora motions up to Jacob, who leans down to let her whisper in his ear. “Should we tell them?” she asks.

Jacob’s expression turns sour for a moment, but he stays quiet.

Brendyn snorts. “Limits are boring! I mean, I have yet to outgrow the solar system, but I know I could! Only reason I stopped was because I got bored! So I shrank back down and went home. You really don’t have to worry about breathing in space. You pretty much just make your own atmosphere when you’re that big.”

Reina looks at the mountain lion, her expression one of abject terror. Emilie’s mouth is wide open, and Noah has his head tilted back with an odd smile on his face. His eyes are unfocused, and it seems as if he is daydreaming…

“JACOB CAN BE BIGGER!” Flora suddenly shouts.

Everyone turns to look at her outburst. Then their eyes slowly travel up to look at Jacob, whose expression switches from one of anger towards Flora to an almost defensive mask. “Yeah, well… I have been bigger before. But that was some magical effect, I’m not really sure what it was. It probably won’t happen again.”

“How big did you get?” Esther asks.

“Es!” Kait says sternly, jutting her elbow into Esther’s arm.

“What?! I wanna know!”

“He was SUPER big!” Flora responds, prompting another look of anger on Jacob’s face. “Normally he’s bigger than the whole of my village! But when he was enlargened, you could have fit our entire country on him, with room to spare! It was incredible!”

Jacob coughs awkwardly, clearly uncomfortable with the topic. “How about we just move on to the next question, huh?”

“Ah, see the trick is in planning! Never get so big you’re a danger to other people! If you’re gonna outgrow the planet, better start in a place where no one is around, then jump! Also, grow fast enough that you’re not dragging anything with you! It’s the safest way!”

Brendyn laughs. “Well, no. I don’t think so. A few of us spend a lot of time together…”

“Well, Kait and I live together,” Esther says. She plops a hand on top of her mouse-girlfriend’s head. “We get along pretty well, I’d say, as long as she gets her bath.”

“Yes, and as long as Esther doesn’t leave her underwear all over the place.” She tries to push the large cat paw on her head off, but ultimately gives up.

“Noah and I share quarters as well, though I feel he does not enjoy the arrangement.” Emilie looks towards Noah, a look of uncertainty on her face.

“Well, the constant military presence is off-putting, to be sure.” His response seems cold, but he smiles and nudges Emilie gently with his elbow. “I am a fan of the company, though.” She smiles in response.

“I don’t even know these people,” Penny pipes up from his own small chair. “Although I think I stole from her, once,” he says as he points towards Reina.

“Wait… are you why I can’t find the jade ring my mother left me!” Reina looks at him, a look of alarm painted across her features. Her regulators beep a warning at her reaction.

“Nah. Just wanted to see the look on your face!” Penny laughs as Reina mutters something under her breath.

“Meanwhile, Jacob couldn’t lose me if it were pitch dark and we couldn’t hear each other.” Flora pats his arm gently from her place on his hand.

“Not that I’d try, either. She’s the only thing keeping me sane these days. Despite her best efforts to drive me crazy.”

“Oh come now, Jacob. I can’t be all that bad.” She huffs a little, and he simple sticks his tongue out at her in response.

“SO AS I WAS SAYING,” Brendyn says, looking somewhat annoyed, “while SOME of us spend time together, we mostly stick to our own worlds. Actually, how the heck are we together now?”

Oh wow. This is a tough question. For me, it was really only recently. I’ve always had quickly-shifting moods, and it was only after embracing the g/t community that I really started applying sizes to those moods. It’s helped bring a better clarity to my mood swings, and has really helped me find a way to control those moods a little better.

As for everyone else, well…

Reina blushes a little as she tries to hide her face. “I, uh… I woke up after my accident, and… it kind of just happened? The hospital staff said my body pretty much grew whenever I was even slightly conscious, so it’s not really a power so much as just the way my body is now. I don’t really control my growth so much as it controls me. My regulators just help temporarily turn it off.”Brendyn pats her on the back gently. “It’s alright, Reina. For me, it’s been this way for as long as I can remember. I just grew up used to it, really. People never really said there was anything wrong with it, but I guess I was lucky.”

“Quite lucky indeed,” Emilie says. She also lays a supportive hand on Reina’s shoulder. “For me, it was much the same. The war gave my country very little options, and they turn to occult and outrageous experiments. Many of us children were taken from our homes. I was not the only one to survive, but I was the only one who reacted the way I did. We did not even know how I had been effected until the facility was attacked. The first bomb they dropped on us was absorbed by my body. That was the first time any of us knew.”

Brendyn’s expression turns a little sad. “You two had such difficult times. I’m so sorry! I had no idea.”

Reina smiles back towards him. “It’s okay, Brendyn. I think we’re both infinitely stronger for it. I wouldn’t have had the confidence to do any of the things I’ve done if it hadn’t been for that experience.”

“Yes,” Emilie echoes. “I was given a way to protect my country and defend my people. The world is a safer place, and so few people suffer because I did for them.”
