Dunque l'informazione può essere considerata "una nuova forma di materia" con tanto di massa? La ricerca è volutamente provocatoria, basandosi tuttavia su fondamenti scientifici chiamati a interpretare l'enorme mole di dati che ogni giorno vengono condivisi - e salvati - in rete. Non sono tanto i dati di oggi a preoccupare Vopson - la massa di informazioni prodotte ogni anno corrisponde a "meno di un chicco di riso" - quanto la loro rapidità di crescita.
