Early in 2020, the initial outbreak of COVID-19 quickly spread to the whole China and then across the globe, creating an international public health emergency. In the hardest-hit areas of Wuhan, medical staff, infected patients and isolated citizens on the front line of the epidemic are desperately lacking all kinds of essential medical and living materials and remain in need of significant assistance and support. In order to prevent the continued spread of the epidemic, almost all outdoor activities and large gatherings have been temporarily suspended, with the vast majority of people with no choice but to stay at home. Stuck at home themselves, DCYY a record label from China, started putting together a fundraising compilation series called Home Fitness, which includes tracks from producers from both inside and outside of China. With the compilation, they hope to raise some money to help those fighting against the epidemic, while also bringing some of those trapped at home together with some new music to ease out some anxiety. All proceeds from this compilation will go to Firefly Plan for the purchase of protective clothing, diapers, sanitary pads and other essential items needed by frontline medical staff.
Pascal Terstappen a.k.a. Applescal has released his new artist album, ‘Diamond Skies’ on Atomnation. The nine-tracker is a collection of expertly-produced, instrumental melodic house with lush, ambient soundscapes and a nod to the analog sounds of the 90’s.
Applescal has created a musical dreamworld for a listener to step into as an antidote to troubled times. Pascal explains his objectives, “I wanted the album to sound free and to bring back a certain mystery to dance music, which in today’s world can sometimes feel grey and designed for utility in big rooms.”
‘Diamond Skies’ is an album which feels uplifting and effortless, a confluence of melodic house, occasional breakbeat and ambient energy; the sound of a producer at the height of his powers.
Rage parties were a staple of London’s acid house era. Beginning in 1988 and originally taking place in the iconic venue Heaven, it was in 1991 that the club night recruited DJs Fabio & Grooverider for a residency that would help define its existence. Released in five parts and compiling 32 tracks, 30 Years of Rage Part 1 gathers classic cuts regularly spun by the duo. Encompassing electro, house, ambient-techno, and breakbeat music, the dark and grimy sounds that made Fabio & Grooverider so popular are on full display.
