I'm getting the bran/pru crazies again
I think after getting used to owning things and having some amount of wealth to his name again, Gilbert gets really into frilly, elaborate clothing, peacocking in front of rivals, seeing it on people and dressing them up. You have to imagine they're getting ready for work, Johann is prickly about it and Gilbert is all "so cute ☺️ you don't even need rouge ☺️ but people would respect you more if you wore it? 🤨 and your hair is soft ☺️😚" which is so confusing to Johann he can't even feign being angry. He's equally as ravenous looking at Gilbert in his fancy blue coat, but if he says it out loud, the ego boost might make Gilbert's head pop with hot air, so all he does is stare.
I need more soft Gilbert in my life man…

After Brandenburg gained full sovereignty over Ducal Prussia, Gilbert was moved there. Eventually, over the course of growing into his role as a kingdom, he learned to see it as a homeland and accepted it as a part of himself, but that didn't come without its own struggles, not in small parts because he had only just grown accustomed to being part of a monastery back in Königsberg, and the century came with a lot of turbulent changes in lordship over him. It feels unstable at first, then dangerous, and even when he gains power in the dynamic, becomes the Kingdom, he's still being changed in a way he ultimately has no control over. The land itself isn't something he can easily learn to love; still marked by war and anarchy, still part of a husband who doesn't seem to love him very much.
