April's Favorite Book: Invisible Monsters
Every month this year I'd like to share my very favorite books with you! Sorry mom, Sorry god, this is on my all-time favorite books list. It would be easy to pick Fight Club, and although it is one of my favorites and one of the most influential books of my generation, there's something so punchy and quotable about Invisible Monsters, by Chuck Palahniuk, that I have to pick it instead. This book starts off fast and wild and it never slows down. If you are into it, you will not want to put this book down. It's possible that every single line of this book is a top-shelf quote on its own. It's a hard book to tell you about without spoilers, and if you need to know one thing about me beyond hating AI, it's that I absolutely loathe spoilers.
This is a book rejected by publishers for being 'too disturbing' and only found printing once Fight Club was a success. Like much of his work, it manages to be beautiful and grotesque at the same time. Do I identify with any of the characters? No. Do I even like any of the characters? No. But the story has an oddly redeeming quality given those things. This book has so much wrapped up in it - How can you even explain a book like this one? I will stop trying.
This book kick started a new love for reading for me in 1999. Opened up a whole new world of books. Did you have a book that did that for you?
Happy Brandy Alexander Day! The #BrandyAlexander is a decadent dessert cocktail made from just 3 ingredients: brandy, crème de cacao, and heavy cream. Its true origin is unknown, but most claim the first Alexander drink (made with gin, instead of brandy) was created by New York bartender Troy Alexander in the early 1900's at the Rector Hotel. #FoodConsultant #FoodService #FoodServiceSolutions #FoodSales #Food #FoodDude #WeKnowFood #NobertSales #FoodOfTheDay #DrinkOfTheDay #NobertSales @NobertSales (at Germantown, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoFvZ-Dp2Xj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Happy Brandy Alexander Day! The Brandy Alexander’s ancestral drink is the Alexander, which was crafted with gin—not brandy—as the base spirit. According to historian Barry Popkin, the first iteration of the drink was likely made by (and named after) bartender Troy Alexander, who is said to have invented it at the Rector Hotel in New York shortly after the turn of the century. Tasked with the project of creating an all-white drink to celebrate the fictional, all-white-wearing railroad advertising character Phoebe Snow (not to be confused with the bluesy-voiced 70s singer of the same name), Alexander tossed a bunch of beige-hued liquors together in a glass and the first Alexander was born. It also explains, to some degree, why the cocktail has been so readily pegged as a “lady drink” from the start: It was actually invented to honor a woman (even if she wasn’t, you know, real). #BrandyAlexanderDay #BrandyAlexander #FoodConsultant #FoodService #FoodServiceSolutions #FoodSales #Food #FoodDude #WeKnowFood #NobertSales #DrinkOfTheDay #FoodOfTheDay @NobertSales (at Germantown, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZZl4YelpEJ/?utm_medium=tumblr
