They are very sweet, stout little beasts. I want to squeeze their chubby little bodies, but they won’t even consider permitting it. One of their best features is their long tails -- when they run or jump those tails swing all over the place, making them seem even more exuberant than they actually are.

I agree -- it’s a great idea, and a lovely testimony to the fact that people can sometimes look after shared property. Some of them are even pretty nice; the one at Rubha Hunish certainly was. There’s also sometimes a tendency to leave things like cookies (sealed, obviously) or whisky for the next people, or gather firewood for them, which is downright spirit lifting. I suspect the ones in the Highlands have even saved people’s lives.
