“I’ll be fineee..”, Owl teases before Quest nudges him, “Xyx, you watch over Toasty.”

“You got it boss.” Xyx does a little salute, waiting for Quest to run out of the car and swing forward via the center console to sit next to Toaster.

“Don’t bother, I’m focused right now.” Their fingers fly across the screen, checking security cameras swiftly.

“No fun.” He teases, lifting his feet to the dash. “Better keep an eye on them doll, don’t want anything happening, yeah?”

“More than aware of that.” Toast’s pupils glow a slight yellow/orange, indicating a call with Quest.

“You’ll want to clear out the end of the hallway to your left, it loops around to the other hallway on your right. There’s a door in the back that holds the item the client is looking for. It’s some piece of tech, I’ll send you a briefing once I get a better handle of it and I make it less secure.”

“…you need to be more careful with your network connection, Quest.”

Toast grabbed for their mic, adjusting it nervously. A sort of habit they grew.

Quest sighed knowingly. “I know. I’m sorry you had to see me that way.”

A silence swept over call, they were both left alone after everyone else had left. “I don’t think differently of you in a bad way. You’re still you.”

Quest remained silent.

“Thanks. I think- I think I need to get back to work.”

“Ok. See you around.”

“Beep!”

They hung up soon after.

Truthfully, Toast did think differently of Quest. He didn’t think he was bad persay, but he was different.

Toast had learnt something personal, something he would keep to himself.
