Tsunami the Kingdra
I remember Kingdra was a bit surprising for me back in the day, I really didn't expect Seadra to suddenly get an evolution. And as it turned out it was a pretty powerful one, the first Dragon type that didn't immediately fall to Ice. Of course it WAS the first generation that had Dragon attacks that actually took being super effective into consideration, so there was that, and now they have Fairy to watch out for. Still overall a pretty decent choice to have around. And with that, Box 2 is done!
Mercury the Dragonair
While I was more thinking of the element mercury, the name did also thankfully work out well for trying to name a bunch of Pokemon after major parts of the solar system. Essentially, I just imagined her sweeping and slithering around fast like liquid mercury.
Shade the Gastly
There's a lot about Secret of Mana 2 that I don't really know, I'm not as well versed on that one as I am the original. I just remember when I played it, it surprised me how early you seemed to get Shade.
Xavier the Alakazam
Xavier was not the original name of my Alakazam. Originally, I had named him Gellar, after self-proclaimed psychic Uri Gellar. I'd seen him on the Tonight Show once, and he seemed pretty interesting. And then dumb lawsuits happened and caused Nintendo to shy away from my absolute favorite Pokémon, so that name was right out.

C the Porygon2
This one is not so coincidental, as I ended up training my Porygon2 while attending Full Sail, during my classes on C++ programming. I didn't want to put the pluses in the name though. I thus instead went with just C, which also made me think of a female scientist from an old Saturday morning cartoon I used to watch, who was only ever identified as Dr. C.
Jupiter the Ho-oh
Back in the first days of 2nd gen, my main game was Silver. As such, when I faced Ho-oh, he was at a much higher level than Lugia had been. It made him seem much stronger, and so giving him the title of Jupiter felt fitting enough. There was also the way Jupiter in Mega Man V was bird-based, so that helped in the thought process too.
Neptune the Lugia
As much as I love Psychics, I have to wonder why Lugia is one. He's the DIVING Pokémon and his dex entries are all about living at the bottom of the ocean and such. Soooooo why is he Psychic / Flying....? I mean, it gives me another Psychic legendary to like, but still...
