To be here was unnerving to be in such a place was scary, everything was different but at least those of her world had each other in this time of need right? Even if it was during times of war, Flayn could only hope those around her would see fit and work with each other to get back home.

Knowing that most of the Blue Lion house was comforting to her- she was unsure if the rest felt like that but she could only hope that was the case. Flayn had tried her best to see everyone even those who wanted war with the Church she felt like she must...even if her brother would be deeply disappointed in her for engaging with them she just couldn’t bring herself to ignore them not while being stuck here at least.

As of right at this moment she was with Ashe, someone she truly enjoyed spending time with. Ashe was sweet and that was something she believed people undermined him with, they never looked and saw his true potential- truly something that was sad in her eyes. 

It was nice to have been able to spend time with Ashe.

Neither of them interacted much at the monastery. They’d heard talk of him from someone else, but again, whenever they tried to think on that too hard it only brought frustration and a headache. Still, it was nice to interact with him personally, and not just from word of mouth.

They’d let the other choose what it was they’d be doing for the day, and that somehow wound up with them lugging groceries back to Ashe’s apartment in order to cook. Or more specifically, for Ashe to teach them how to cook. It wasn’t as if they didn’t know how, they did, but it was always following a recipe and it was always with the thought in mind that someone else other than them could do it better.

So learning to cook properly was going to be a task.

Exhausted already at the thought, they stood in front of the counter in an apron as the other set out the ingredients and cooking tools. This was going to go poorly, they were sure. Not due to any folly on Ashe’s end, but their own. They would seriously need some luck for this to work out and taste better than just ‘edible’.

“Ashe,” they spoke, looking over at the other. When he turned to look at them, they grabbed both of his shoulders and looked him directly in the eye. “I read somewhere that this is used for luck—and I am going to need it.”

Without explaining further, they moved to kiss Ashe on the cheek. Moving back, they smiled at him gently before their expression dropped again looking back at the food.

“Well… Might as well get going. I can’t promise I’ll be able to stay awake through the whole process, but…”

The request to braid their hair took them by surprise.

Ashe had originally asked to spend time with them, and that had quickly devolved into the two occupying the same space while focusing on other activities. Linhardt had been in the middle of reading a book they’d taken out of the library and simply raised a brow over the pages, shrugging a bit before sitting up.

“Well I suppose you may, I trust that you won’t get my hair all tangled.”

With that said, they placed the book face down in their lap to keep their place, reaching up to undo the tie in their hair. Letting their hair spill down, they brushed their fingers through it briefly to ensure it wasn’t going to be a pain for the other and handed over the ribbon that had held their hair up in the first place and turned to face away from the other.

Picking their book back up, they resumed reading, though only with half the attention as before. The rest of their attention was on the fingers grazing through their hair, gently plaiting the sections that had been made. It was rather comforting, and they could feel their eyes slowly droop in a familiar manner. After just a few minutes they had fallen asleep—still sitting up with their book now drooped in their lap.

It wasn’t a long sleep, but they could have sworn that a memory of their younger days had played out in a dream while it happened. A memory of an old childhood friend, one whose face and name was escaping them even in the dream, had braided their hair for them with the same ribbon they use now. But they were soon gently shaken awake from their impromptu nap by Ashe, who as soon as they blinked their eyes open announced that the braiding was done.

Reaching back to feel it, they got up to go look at it properly in the mirror. It was much more intricate than they had assumed it was going to be—Ashe was quite talented with braiding it seemed. Looking back over at him, they gave a small smile.

“Thank you Ashe, you’re very talented with your hands it seems. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to take this out—I’d feel bad about ruining it.”

        Due to the night that’s cloaked the earth and the celebrations that light the island, few frequent these grounds. Seldom will she find someone diligent enough to pursue a reading, but here he is, crouched in the fictional section, immersed in pages of fantasy.
