Posted @withregram • @nycacc When Huckleberry smiles it takes over his whole face. And seeing him smile makes me smile just as wide. It's my favorite thing about him, though a close second are his tortilla chip ears. Perfect triangles, always pushed forward attentively. Huckleberry is a big boy, but he has nice leash manners and is easy for me to walk. When he's off leash in the yard he sticks by my side, wagging his tail, giving me little kisses, and taking treats gently. Huckleberry was found stray, wandering in someone's backyard, so we don't know much about his past, other than that he was friendly with the Good Samaritan that found him and brought him in. But I have a good feeling about his future. When I inquired about her, it turned out she wouldn’t be a good fit in our home. We didn’t need a third dog, but I couldn’t get it out of my heart that we had the room, resources and love for another dog. After learning more about NYCACC, I knew that’s where my dog had to come from. I searched their website all week and when I saw your profile on Friday, I knew I had to meet you, so off to Manhattan on a Friday night we went. When they told us about your leg and back problems, the story of how you never saw a vet in your six years of life and then your previous owner just dumped you, I knew you had to come home with us. When they actually brought you out to us, it was a done deal and we had to get you out of there. You might be a bit high maintenance but you are so sweet and loving. And you fit into our little family perfectly. You don’t care where we go or what we do, you just want to be included and be with your people. You might not enjoy her as much as Arnold and Shadow, but we are so proud of how well you’ve adjusted to the baby-even when her little feet kick you in the head while she’s on my lap or when she covered all three of us in spit up. Bentley happily let me leash him and came right out of his cage. Every time I stopped to give him back and side rubs, he cane right up next to me and wiggled and waggled as his tail went thump, thump, thump across my leg. But he enjoyed these interactions for only brief periods before he seemed to get a bit uncomfortable. Bentley knows “sit” and takes treats like a little gentleman. Though he can sometimes be a little distracted outside, he walks nicely on a leash. This unique campaign was created by the team at @wunderman_ny. “Our message is simple - New Yorkers are unique. We are strong, resilient and proud. The same holds true of our animals. Every single animal and every single New Yorker has their own back-story, their own lineage, their own ‘look’ and yet all share an unbreakable devotion to our city that sets us apart from the rest of the world.
