Why I started Annotating books/How to Annotate.
I recently started this habit and it has helped me so much. Especially when I dont want to reread the whole book but a particular scene so I can just go to my notes and look at it.
It’s really good for writing reviews on goodreads. Adding quotes makes it much more interesting enough to attract the reader.
It’s pretty fun. You can use different colors for your highlights and notes. Making your notebook appear cute. On kindle though, you can’t see it colored but if you use the phone app, you can choose from a variety of three colors.
When you reread the book, you can review your notes and highlights to see if your views on something have changed or remain the same.
I feel bad for my favorite books I didn’t annotate. That time, I didn’t know about this process. Like the Cruel Prince,Acotar and NeverNight etc would have been perfect to have some annotations. Cause at times, I miss a particular scene so much but can’t seem to find it since I never bookmarked it. And that my friends, it’s frustrating.I recently reread Acotar and annotated the heck out of it and I had so much fun. Now I can easily go back and reread my fav scenes without having to reading the whole book
How do you start the habit of Annotating?
- Highlight a scene/dialogue you really like. Most of the time I even highlight a paragraph, not cause it has important information, but for the sake of the beautiful writing style.
Highlight a word you don’t know and google the definition and write it down in a notebook. I know this one sounds so like Elementary School,but it helps. Especially with classics or historical fiction.
Make notes. Either in a notebook or in the book. Your choice. If you read a pretty shocking/happy scene, you can write down your reaction.
Some different examples- not actual stories
“She aimed the gun at him and said “ it’s about time I got my revenge on you”
Your reaction- “You go, girl. He deserves it.
“And then he stopped breathing”
Your reaction- “HOW COULD YOU? YOU CRUEL AUTHOR!
I don’t have anymore tips. It’s the ones I use for myself but you can definitely watch some booktube videos on it for more ideas.
Annotating is a great habit and I encourage all of you do it.
