Reconnecting with my love for reading.
Last year I had this mission to buy 100 classics from a list I curated, and I began but never got to finish because life began to life in the way that it does. Until reading became more about finishing the book than really enjoying it. And even this resulted in me taking long breaks because I couldn't find the time to finish it.
Now, after realizing just how much distance I've put between me and my personal interests, I've been trying to reconnect little by little. Which has looked like reading before bed as a means of winding down so I can sleep better, reading in the early morning on weekends to start with some sense of relaxation before I get my day going, and reinvesting time in quotes I find interesting enough to want to know the context under which it was written and adding those books to my on going list. And next is to start buying more books again in sets of 3s.
I may not get the 100 books by end of year but reconnecting with this passion has been so insightful regarding the importance of not compromising your interests even and especially when life feels overwhelming and like you can't manage it all. Reconnecting has been more than just about realizing my love for reading, but it has ventured into mental health. I have the ability to both feed my mind and take time away from my stressors. That will never not be important for me.
Currently, I'm still on The Brothers Karamazov, which I have been on for quite a few months now. But today was the first time that I read it and didn't care about how religiously technical it was, and enjoyed it for both the writing style and for what it intended to portray.
It's important to always stay in tune with the things we love and the reasons for which we love them and make a point never to compromise those things.
Spending my night in bed with my kindle.
Reading keeps me sane and away from people.
